Hello and Welcome to the Battle of Central Alberta Part 7
Since the first Battle in 2017, the tournament has intentionally gone from course to course. The first Battle was at Aspen Meadows, and it has traveled all over Central Alberta since then. This year, we are back in Red Deer... this time at a new pop-up course on the Red Deer Polytechnic campus. While this is a pop-up, it is also a test run as the Central Alberta Disc Golf Association is hoping to work with RDP and install a permanent course in the near future. We hope you enjoy this one-day tournament and we appreciate you joining us.
Tournament Notes
Getting to the Course and Parking
You can park at the Gary Harris Building or Sheldon Kennedy Centre Parking. Hole 1 and Tournament Central will be located near the south entrance to the Gary Harris building.
Schedule - Saturday
9:00 AM - Check-in and pick up player pack - please be sure to check in before your first round.
10:00 AM - Round One begins
Round Two will begin at approximately 2:00 PM but will be at least an hour after the first round ends. Check at Tournament Central for the official time.
Scoring
We will be scoring using a Digital Scoring Card. You can access this with the PDGA Scoring app or at PDGA.com/score and then use the code: battle7. If you do not have access to a digital scorecard, we can supply a paper scorecard. All players must keep score.
Starting Hole and Mixed Cards
Your starting hole will be published Wednesday on the PDGA page (linked to from discgolfscene) and for the first round we might have mixed cards. This is not common but we will be doing it for the first round only to split up the players that know the course with the people who might not. This should help even out the speed of play and questions about the course.
Red Deer Market
The Red Deer Market runs from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Feel free to plan to get your breakfast or coffee there.
JK Discs
JK Discs will be present after the first round and will be helping to prize out discs...but will not be there after the second round. So make sure you get what you like after the first round!
Raffle
We will be having a raffle and will draw the winning prizes after the final round. Tickets will be sold all day Saturday (plus there will be one in your player pack!) (And if you have anything you would like to donate to the Raffle, please bring it with you at player check in!)
Weather Considerations
The forecast looks good, not great, so come prepared for all types of weather. Especially the wind.
Restroom Facilities
There are no restrooms on the course, but there are in the Gary Harris Building. Plan accordingly.
Spectator Information
Please, if you know people that are interested, please let them know and bring them along. They are more than welcome.
Random Notes
- If you throw onto the highway or over a fence, continue playing until after the round, and then return to get your disc as safely as possible.
- Be sure to be up to date on the PDGA Rules and Competition Manual. It is included with the PDGA Scoring App.
- The course is crisscrossed with walking paths. Always give the right of way to the pedestrians.
- There are a few spots where you might cross over with another card. The card on the higher hole has the right of way, just to keep it simple.
Please wait until the card in front of you is off the hole before you begin to throw, even if you think they are far enough away to not hit. No point in accidentally catching them.
- And finally, a traditional etiquette note - when you are practicing putting, it is the standard to just bring two putters with you, not four or six. Everyone putts twice, gets their discs, and repeats. Easy peasy.
- There is a caddy book attached to this email, but remember, the PDGA Scoring App is the final version of the hole notes.
- Please let me know if you have any questions either in response to this, on Facebook, or Discgolfscene. I will answer to the best of my ability.
Good Luck to All!
Robin Lambert and all of the PTB Crew.
