About this tournament

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 2024 Southern Ohio Classic, formerly the Black Bear Open. To all those who are returning from years passed, we welcome you back, and if this is your first time coming to our event, get ready, the Bear awaits!

This year, we have opted to include the Fire & Smoke DGC in the festivities, showcasing both of our area's finer courses. This two round, two day PDGA B Tier event will test both your open air bombing abilities and your woods-navigating prowess.

Black Bear DGC will kick off the event, returning with the signature 21 hole Championship layout. Mostly the same from last year, the layout will be a little different than you are used to with casual play. A couple changes will be noticed from last year, mainly the omission of the temporary hole 10 and the combination of holes 13/14, as well as a redesign of hole 20. Most every hole will be in the long position, testing every shot you have in your bag to shoot well here.

Fire & Smoke DGC will bring the event home on a temporary, championship caliber layout that will require more than just raw power to score well. With tight OB and new looks at familiar holes abound, this will be a lot more than the "birdie-or-die" style this course is used to seeing. Fire & Smoke will be set up in an 18-hole format, with plenty of OB danger and some temporary holes to sharpen things up.

Southern Ohio Classic will be a Pro/Am B-Tier event spanning two days, September 21-22. Amateur player packs will consist of two discs of choice from club stock, as well as other items TBD. Amateur payout will take place immediately following the conclusion of each division on Sunday. Overnight accommodations can be found at either of the two State Park campgrounds in the area, the Shawnee Lodge, or the various hotels in nearby Portsmouth.
