About this tournament

Forest Preserves of Cook County Tour Series:

The Nodding Trillium Open is the second stop on Disc Golf Chicago’s Cook County Forest Preserve Tour Series. The Series has been developed in collaboration with the Forest Preserve to explore how the sport of disc golf and its community can support the mission of the Forest Preserve to preserve natural spaces and provide inclusive educational and recreational opportunities.

The Nodding Trillium Open is our second series event and the first event that will be held at a traditional, non-disc golf Forest Preserve property on a temporary course. In collaboration with the Forest Preserve, we have identified areas within both the Busse Woods and St Paul Woods preserves and designed temporary courses that we are very excited about. These courses will only be available to play during the Tour Series events, so don't miss out! The final of the three events will be held at St Paul Woods on September 25th.

Each stop on the tour celebrates a local endangered species. The nodding trillium is a perennial woodland flower species that can be found throughout North America. It was believed that the nodding trillium was no longer existent in Illinois until, in 1995, it was discovered at Thatcher Woods Glen, a Forest Preserves of Cook County property. Prior to that, the last time it was reported in abundance in northeast Illinois was in 1900! The nodding trillium has three drooping white pedals, though often these can be hard to see as they can be covered by the plant's large leaves.
