Good Evening Disc Golfers,
An email has gone out to all competitors and those on the waitlist. I'm posting here as well in the event your email was filtered as spam or bounced back.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the eve, of the eve of the King's Forest Open I wanted to give everyone a shout and share a few details for the event this weekend. First and foremost, we're excited to host everyone, from Belleville to Bobcaygeon and beyond; we're happy to share our course with you.
The event player's guide was uploaded to DiscGolfScene this week and can be downloaded by scrolling down to the "documents" section on the about page. I'm going to let folks get the lion's-share of their course and programming information from this resource so please give it a read.
Waitlist & Withdrawals
If you're wavering, on-the-fence, or intend to withdraw and haven't yet, please reach out immediately. With a little more than 24 hours before round 1 tee-off Saturday, we're cutting it close to give our anxious waitlisters enough notice to fill-in.
Waitlisters; if a spot does not end up becoming available, you'll have your waitlist and any additional fees refunded on the Monday following the event.
A few things that are in the guide, but warrant an additional reminder:
Course Contingencies
Thanks to some beautiful early spring weather, a few of the holes on the front nine at King’s Forest may be compromised during this year’s event. Specifically, holes 3 & 4 can flood and get very muddy during the spring melt. In an effort to err on the side of safety, and keep everyone’s feet dry and round coasting-along, we’ve flagged a pair of “contingency holes” to replace our traditional holes 3 & 4 should the need arise. These holes can be previewed on the course map in the player's guide (alternative 3 & 4). As mentioned, these holes are currently flagged if you’d like to practice them in-person prior to the weekend. I'm headed to the course on Friday and will make the final call based on conditions. Expect an email update regarding any necessary adjustments; I wanted to share where we currently stand in the interim as I've received multiple emails and DMs concerned with the area.
Shoes
There is very little, if any snow remaining on the course at King's Forest. There are a few small icy walkway areas left, but I don't expect them to endure until Saturday, let alone Sunday. That being said, the course may be wet in particular areas and although predominantly clear, muddy in a few sections too. I'm going to ask that players plan accordingly and bring extra socks to stay comfortable and an indoor pair of shoes in case you find yourself caked and looking to avoid making a terrific mess in the clubhouse during lunch, awards, etc.
Lunch
If you purchased a lunch during registration, please make sure to pick up your lunch voucher during check-in in the morning. If you haven't purchased lunch, there will be some lunch vouchers available for purchase at the bar. If you wish to instead visit XXXBurrito down the street, they are only open on Saturdays (sorry Sunday pool!) and they've supported our event (plus they have FANTASTIC burritos). If you choose to bring your own lunch, you're able to eat it in the front foyer or men's lounge. Unfortunately, outside food is not permitted inside the clubhouse restaurant.
Snacks
Yep, we'll have snacks, as always. During play, visit the snack station when you're on your ghost hole in the clubhouse.
Schedule
The full schedule is available in the Player's Guide, but I wanted to make sure everyone knew that the gates will be opening by 8am and player check-in and player's pack pick-up will begin shortly afterwards in the clubhouse. Pros do NOT need to check-in, but are required to attend the player's meeting at 8:45am as we'll be discussing some important layout details and going over pace-of-play strategies while answering player questions. There will certainly be information that you need here.
Ghost Holes
Players will have a brief intermission of play between holes 9 and 10 during the event. Once you've finished hole 9, please proceed up to the clubhouse; you'll be able to warm-up and watch the next tee from the comfort of the restaurant until it's your turn while you snack and maybe pick up a beverage (non-alcoholic during the round please; lunch and awards are fair game for beers and spirits though)
I'll leave it at that for now folks. If you have any questions, concerns or need any clarity between now and the weekend, please feel free to email, text, call or post on the DGS page.
We'll see you this weekend at King's Forest!
