About this tournament

This is a fundraiser for The Myositis Association, an excellent 501 (c)(3) charity located in Maryland. TMA's mission is to improve the lives of persons affected by myositis, fund innovative research and increase myositis awareness and advocacy. This goal is to donate $5,000 to TMA. We can do it! Thanks to generous support from Innova Discs, Gray Duck Disc Golf, Danny Polk, Ray Jordan and others, players will receive a 3-piece player pack: a custom Jumpin' Joe tourney stamped Innova golf disc, mini, and Makani hybrid disc. Prizes will be awarded to winners of divisions with 3 or more players, plus raffle winners will go home with a new Innova EZ practice basket, or a new GRIP backpack, or new bags, or one of the mystery packs full of awesome new golf discs. And a CTP Pool of $300 (total) cash to be paid out! Specific holes will have additional CTPs to win premium discs.

Joe #362 was Minnesota’s first disc golf TD and course designer in 1977 (Kenwood Klassic) — and is coming out of TD retirement. He's the founder of the MN Majestic and DG State Championships and the longtime editor of DiscGolfer magazine. He was honored to be voted into the World Disc Golf Hall of Fame in 2011 and inaugural Minnesota Disc Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. His memoir narrative non-fiction will be published next year by the Minnesota Historical Society Press.

But Joe’s story goes beyond the sport. In 2014, he was diagnosed with inclusion body myositis (IBM), a rare neuromuscular disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. Rather than step away, Joe continued playing DG and pickleball, advocating, and raising awareness for disc golf and IBM. Now living with IBM for over a decade, he credits staying active to maintaining his quality of life.

Why support TMA? There currently is no approved treatment or cure for IBM, and research funding is critical. By participating in — or donating directly to — Joe’s campaign, you’re backing the organization working hardest to change that (and indirectly helping Joe and millions of other IBMers). Play a round on May 9 or support Joe from wherever you are. Help him reach his goal of $5,000. Every dollar counts, and Joe plans to match dollar for dollar up to $500. Thank you!
