About this tournament
– Welcome –
Indy Match Play Championships is an Indy Disc Golf Club (IDGC) membership benefit event similar to Best of City. Club members have two chances each year to be called primus inter pares, or first among their peers: match play in the Spring, and stroke play in the Fall. This event is the spiritual successor to the Indy match play championships that were all-day battles fought across the Mohawk Compound.
– Major Details –
This event is one of the 2 exclusive events for IDGC Members. All participants will need to be current IDGC members to compete. IDGC membership is $10 for the year and you can sign up at any league event or on our website - www.indydiscgolf.com. Additionally, there is a $10 entry fee that will be used for payout to the top 8 finishers.
We will be following PDGA match play scoring and rules found here: www.pdga.com/rules/official-rules-disc-golf/appendix-a
There are 2 exceptions/clarifications to these rules -
1. There is no requirement that each match is played with another pair or official
2. All matches that end tied after 18 holes will go into sudden death starting on hole 1 and continuing until a hole is won.
New this year: the format will start with round robin pool play followed by a 32-player single elimination bracket. Pools will be randomly drawn during our live draw spectacular (draw date and time are TBD, post registration close and play beginning). Two players from each pool will advance to the 32-player bracket.
If we have 48-63 players, each player is going to play 2-3 matches during the round robin. If we have 64-80 players, each player will have 3-4 matches during the round robin. This event will be capped at 80 players, so get signed up now to ensure your spot in this one of a kind event.
The single elimination bracket will be filled by matching each pool winner with the second place finisher from a different pool. All Ties in pool play will be broken in the following order:
1. Head to head result between the tied players (if players A and B end pool play tied, whoever won the match between player A and B would advance or claim the higher seed). If there is a 3-way tie and 1 of the players did not win either match against the other 2 players, they are eliminated.
2. Combined margin of victory (CMOV): if players end pool play tied and the head to head results cannot break the tie then the player(s) with the higher margin of victory will advance. CMOV is calculated by adding how many holes the player won their matches by minus how many holes they lost matches by. For example, player A won 2 matches 3 up and 1 up but lost a match 2 down - their CMOV will be calculated 3+1-2= 2. So in the above example, let's say player A had a CMOV of 2, player B had a CMOV of 5, and player C had a CMOV of 3 - players B and C would advance if both spots in their pool were open; if only 1 spot was open, the winner of the match between B and C would get the spot.
3. Average Loss Margin (ALM)- if 3 players still remain tied, we use ALM to break the tie. Example: players A/B/C all have a CMOV of 3 with the following results player A 2+3-1-1=3, player B 5+3-4-1=3, player C 4+2-2-1=3. In this scenario, player A would advance because their average margin of loses was 1 vs player B was 2.5 vs C was 1.5. If 2 players remain tied, then it would go to the head to head result between the 2.
4. If somehow there is still a 3-way tie (very improbable), TD will schedule a 3-way sudden death play-in.
Any match that is forfeited will be counted as a 1 down loss for the player forfeiting and a 1 up win for their opponent.
NOTE: if Tournament Staff notices or suspects any shenanigans in results (IE someone has locked up a spot to advance to the bracket and then "throws" or forfeits a match to alter results or tie breakers) punishment may include penalties added to that/or any benefiting players upcoming bracket round match all the way to possible expulsion from the bracket round.
– Fees and Rewards –
$10 entry fee will be going into the payout pool. We will be paying out players making it to the final 8 of the bracket with increasing payouts going to the semi finalists, finalists and ultimately CHAMPION. The payout amounts will be posted after registration when we know the amount in the prize pool. The champion will also receive a floating trophy (the winner keeps for a year and is returned for next years winner to claim)!

Pooled Round Robin - Weeks 1/2/3
Matches can be played at any of the following courses/layouts but each player must play matches on at least 2 different courses during round robin pool play. If players cannot agree on a course for their match, the match will be played at Washington Park. If, for either player, using Washington Park would violate the rule of playing different courses, then the other player gets to decide which of the other 3 courses will be played.
1. Washington Park - Main Layout
2. Brookside Park - Inner Loop Layout
3. Sahm Park - Odds Long/Evens Short
4. Fall Creek - Leap Frog Short
For the Bracket rounds, the following courses will be used:
Round of 32 - Washington Park - All Long Tees & Long Baskets
Round of 16 - VFW 7119 - Main
Round of 8 - Sahm Park - Long Tees
Round of 4 - Fall Creek - Wooded 18 Blue/Gold
Final - Brookside - CFO Preview Layout
All courses and layouts are subject to change (changes would be due to course conditions, i.e. if Sahm or Fall Creek are flooded, course schedule interferes with another event, etc).
