About this tournament

Welcome to the 2022 Don Shinn Memorial!!
100-Year-Old Don Shinn, a.k.a "Mr. Mamba", was an adventurous man who took up disc golf at the age of 90. He was a native of South Korea and a former Judo instructor who took up disc golf to stay active.
If you never had the pleasure of meeting Don, he was a very kind man who loved life and the sport of disc golf amongst other sports. You could often find him playing 6 days a week, starting rounds at the crack of dawn, always willing to provide a smile or reassurance to others that if they keep practicing, improvement will come. A true inspiration.
He once said in an interview that “It’s so nice for me to keep practicing because it makes me strong, not only physically, but mentally as well”.
In memory of Don, we are hosting this 36-hole tournament at two courses he enjoyed playing in Southern California.

• Signup opens for Women & Juniors Divisions – January 10
• Signup opens for Pro Divisions – January 13

EVENT INFO >
• PDGA C-Tier Event with divisions from Pro to Junior <15.
• Juniors will play 1 ROUND at Mountain Pride
• All other Divisions will play 2 rounds
• Both rounds are walking only, no carts
• Round #1 - 18 holes @ Reidy Creek
• Round #2 - 18 holes @ Mountain Pride Park
• Tee-time format, starting at 8 am each day. Up to 5/card. If a division does not have four or more players registered, the tournament director reserves the right to consolidate divisions. You will be contacted if this impacts you.
• Early entry codes will be provided to those who have provided course maintenance at Mountain Pride.
• Ace Pot will be offered @ $5. Don Shinn was always mentioning how impressed he was with both disc golf courses and would love to have seen continued improvement. Therefore, if no Aces are hit, this money will go towards the Tee Sign Fund for Reidy Creek managed by Flight Collective and the Shade Structure Fund for Mountain Pride managed by MRDGC. It will be split 50/50 to each fund. Additionally, player fees include $2/player for this purpose.
• Amateur Players will receive a player’s pack to consist of a Innova Mamba Disc, Tournament stamped disc from Legacy Discs, Legacy Discs mini and snack.
• All Players will receive metal Don Shinn commemorative bag tag and event sticker
TEE SIGNS / PRO PURSE SPONSORSHIP >
• Tee Sign Sponsorships available at $40/sign or 2 signs for $70. We will have a total of 36 tee signs including both courses. Sponsors may keep signs following tournament.
• Pro Purse Donations are always welcome! Depending on donation amount, we can include a banner, etc.
AWARDS >
• Trophy and $ for Pros. Payouts will be will either be done the day of in cash or within 2 days after event electronically. Payout Table will be distributed prior to event.
• Trophy & Rattler Bucks for Amateurs (to be used towards items in Murrieta Rattlers Disc Golf Club Store available during & after second round).

• Waitlist fee of $5 is non-refundable.
• Once we send a waitlist invite, you have 36 hours to respond or you will forfeit your spot to the next in line

• Reidy Creek – First come, first served parking lot at golf course. Overflow parking is available across the street at Jesmond Dean park
• Mountain Pride Park – First come, first served parking lot at park. Overflow parking in neighborhoods adjacent to park.
Shinn said he is proud of his world record and said that he felt he could beat it again. "In order to achieve what I have in mind is to keep practicing, if I do a little better, I'm happy more than anything else."

• Full refunds (minus service fees) will be given until February 4, 2022
