Welcome to the 1st Annual Charlotte Match Play presented by Scorpion Disc Golf.
Match play is what led to the start of our company! I think its a blast and wanted to give ALL players in Charlotte the opportunity to compete in this style of event.
Its a very simple way of playing. Instead of normal stroke play you will be matched up based on your "seed/rank" on your team with the same seed of the opposing team for that week. You will contact the other person and pick the course and time to play. You then play against each other 1 v 1, though other matchups can be competed at the same time. The goal is to win the most holes. If the holeis a tie it does NOT carry over like in skins. Most match play rounds are over before hole 18. for example if I were playing someone and had won 3 more holes than the person I'm playing against with only 2 holes left then the match is over. (this will be explained further once we start this up)
This is the first one so I am not sure how many players will sign up. Depending on the amount of players we will have "X" number of teams with "X" number of players. Each team will play each other once or twice. A week or so before 6/1 Ill send an email out requesting people that want to be captains. Captains will then draft their players on 5/27, I want to make this fun and we will have a thread going on Charlotte Area Disc Golf (facebook) for everything. Players will even be able to create videos, resumes, etc. to help their draft stock. Also, depending on how many women/children sign up each team will be required a minimum amount of those players.
At the end of the regular season there will be playoffs and an eventual champion. The top 3 finishing teams will be receiving a cash payout. Once I know how many we get signed up the payout information will be posted. I will also be looking at getting an annual trophy made so the team name/members can be listed every year.
Yes, we are playing for money and potentially other things. HOWEVER, this is about having fun and getting to know people all over Charlotte and competing together! You will have the opportunity to be teamed up with people you do and do not know and most likely playing against people you have never had the opportunity to compete against before. I cant wait to see what this grows to and I'm sure more things will be announced as we get this going!
