Folks,
I hope you are excited to test your skills on the course at Fontana Village tomorrow!
This email serves as the official Player’s Meeting, so please read through everything carefully, and contact me directly (no “reply all” please!) of you have any questions.
First, if you have to cancel your participation last-minute, please text me at 828-508-2501. That is also the number to text if you have questions during the tournament.
Fontana Village Resort has graciously allowed us to use the course at no charge. Let’s be the best guests we can be by treating the course with respect (pick up your trash, etc.), greeting other resort guests with courtesy, parking only in designated areas, etc. While you’re at it, treat your competitors with the same level of respect and consideration. Let’ ensure that everyone, players, non-player, resort employees, and tournament staff, have a great day at the resort.
The weather is looking wet for the morning round and dryer in the afternoon. Please come prepared. If you are driving to the course Saturday morning, be aware that the road in is curvy and mountainous. Give yourself some extra time to travel safely, especially if it is raining.
Checking In: All players must check in between 8:30 and 9:00 am tomorrow. Check-in/Tournament Central will be on the porch of the Event Hall. That is #4 on the map you can access here:
https://dcmetrominis.org/forum/topic/4424-motd-15-lodging/
Restrooms: We have been given access to the restrooms in the Event Hall. However, we do not have access to the Event Hall for general use. In other words, please don’t hang out in the Hall, eat your lunch there, etc. Get your “business” done and move on along!
Scoring: There is no reliable cell service at Fontana Village (let your family/friends know you may not be able to easily contact them). We will keep score using paper cards tomorrow (old school!). All players must keep and submit an official paper scorecard, no exceptions. You can pick up your score card when you sign in. At the end of each round, reconcile your cards with your group to ensure that everyone has the same totals. All score cards must be submitted to Tournament Central no later than 30-minutes after your group completes your last hole for the round. Please have 1 person in your group submit all your scorecards at the same time to make it easier for tournament staff.
Round 1 Start: Round 1 is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am. I will do my best to get us started on time. The 2-minute warning and start signals will use an air horn. Your starting holes are listed on the event PDGA page:
https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/75966 If we have last-minute cancellations there may be adjustments to your starting hole, so confirm your starting hole when you check in.
Lunch Break: We will have a 1-hour break between rounds, starting after all round 1 scores have been submitted. If you ordered a box lunch, I’ve asked them to be delivered to Tournament Central. The resort Bistro will be open but be aware that I have no control over how quickly you may be served there. I plan to start round 2 on time, so plan accordingly.
Round 2 Start: I will post the round 2 start time at Tournament Central at least 20-minutes before the start (exact start time may depend on progress of round 1 scoring…paper cards!). Check in during the lunch break to confirm your starting hole and pick up a clean score card for round 2.
Awards: PRO cash payout and AM prizes will be awarded as soon as total scores have been calculated. Please be patient with the tournament staff. We’ll try to get things wrapped up as quickly as possible!
Ace Pool: Optional Ace Pool is available for $2. Pay when you arrive to check in for round 1. Exact change is appreciated.
CTPs: Free CTPS for all divisions during round 1 will be on holes 1, 2, 3, & 4. If you end round 1 one of those holes, please bring the CTP flags to Tournament Central. CTPs for divisions playing the long layout during round 2 will be on holes 15, 16, & 17.
Layouts: All divisions will play the short layout round 1. During round 2, FA 3, MA4, MA60, & MA70 will play the short layout again. All other divisions will play the long layout. Hole rules are listed at the end of this email and paper sheets will be available.
All proceeds from this event support the Western Carolina University Club Disc Golf Team. We thank you in advance!
Finally, as a newer tournament director, I will do everything I can to ensure that you have a great experience, but I will make some mistakes or disappoint some individuals. Let’s all try to have the best attitude possible and most of all, “Have fun out there!”
