About this tournament
2 rounds of play
The Canadian Women's Event (CWE) is a series of tournaments to celebrate Canadian women in disc golf. CWE's across Canada will take place in the months of May and June, and a Canadian ranking system will be created for all participants and national trophies awarded. This year, I am proud to offer another CWE held right here, in St. Catharines with an outstanding player's pack featuring Gateway discs! This event also falls during the window of WGE, meaning your participation in this event qualifies you to win additional trophies and titles from both events!
If you have never played disc golf before, or just began throwing, a tournament might seem like an impossible or intimidating event. However, this event is more about celebrating women's accomplishment in sport, our disc golf journey and getting to meet more female disc golfers than competing. For anyone who has participated in a "fun run", "Foam" or "Mud" event, this will have a similar feel. To help facilitate youth and new comers to the sport, the second round of golf is optional for some divisions.
Your round score(s) will be uploaded along with other participants from across the country, which may qualify you for a national award in your age category or skill level. There will be prizes and trophies awarded at the local level for all ages and skill levels, as well as an amazing players pack! The CWE players pack contains a premium plastic Gateway disc, a mini disc (coffee scented or glow-in-the-dark), a CWE necker from VC Ultimate, a Throw Pink tote bag, a Pick-a-link practice bead from FR disc golf, a dry bag with CWE logo, disc golf earrings or a disc golf hair tie from Carbella Designs, an event bag tag with all of this year's events listed on it. There will be a minimum of $250 added cash to the PRO pot and additional items and treats added to the amateur player's packs (based on fundraising efforts). It's impossible to buy these items for the cost of entry to the event ($45). If you are interested in an additional player's pack, I will contact you to make these arrangements at cost. JUST IN- - - EACH PLAYER'S PACK WILL NOW CONTAIN TWO DISCS!!!
In addition to the great players pack, we will also have CTP prizes, draws, raffles, a disc swap, and new discs available for purchase on site from Primal Disc Golf (https://primaldiscgolf.ca/), owned by Chris Kotyk. Everyone will play one round of disc golf (from either the short yellow-bricked tees or the long concrete pads) in the morning and then we will have a minimum 60-minute break for lunch (from the last card finished). Water and snacks will be available throughout the course all day. Please bring a refillable water to help lessen our carbon footprint and carpool if possible. You also have the option to purchase a packaged lunch by Flavour Fuel. Gluten free, vegan, and vegetarian options are all available. The cost for lunch has been subsidized through fundraising and includes tax and delivery. Lunch orders are packaged individually and will be delivered to the course in time for lunch. Flavour Fuel is also a first-year sponsor of our event.
During the lunch break, special activities will be provided for you as well as opportunity to socialize with all of the participants. Bring a new or used disc you don't use and swap it out for something different! Following lunch, the second round of play will begin. For advanced divisions and PDGA-ranked players this round is mandatory, but for beginner and junior divisions it is optional. We will have draws for the prizes and raffles, and a ceremony for the winners of each division following the completion of the second round. Adam Chainey will also be taking and sharing photos of the event with local media and all the participants. Watch for the photo link in an email following the event.
This event is funded by local businesses in the Queenston area, the City of St. Catharines, the CWE Committee, PDGA Canada and a number of national sponsors who contributed to our player's pack. The $15 non-membership fee for non-PDGA members was waived for this event as well. We will have fun activities, washrooms, music, vendors, laughter, photos and make great memories together!
I will also require some volunteers to assist with the event. I will need a few spotters on certain holes to keep an eye out for discs as well as a few volunteers familiar with the course and scoring on PDGA Live to assist new players. We do have some water on the course and a few discs made need retrieval. Runners for CTP flags, caddies, and other duties will be essential to help the day run smoothly. Lunch and shirts will be provided for all volunteers and volunteer hours for any high school students.
Please share this event with your friends and family, and help us make history! You don't want to miss being a part of this event. All ages and skill levels welcome.
