Here is the text of the email I sent to all registered players, staff, and waitlisters (don't rely on this!
find it in your email, because it is full of very important links and one hilarious link):
If you're getting this email, you're either registered for the Brent Anderson Memorial, a member of the staff, or on the waitlist. Our friend Brent left us on June 24, 2017, and while it's a sad three-year marker to hold this tournament, I think Brent would love knowing that he's remembered this way.
This email contains important information and notes that you will need to know leading up to and on the day of the event. You are responsible for all of this information, so read, re-read, click links, and familiarize yourself with it. A prelude: please do not play if you are sick or showing any symptoms of COVID-19, or if you have been exposed to COVID-19 recently. I will gladly provide a ful refund to anyone who cannot play for this reason.
First, please watch the players' meeting video. This video (which is less than two and a half minutes long) covers course rules and OB, including a non-standard two meters of relief from OB water. Please note: when dealing with the pond or with regular creek OB (i.e., not "creek and across" on holes 8 and 16 or the OB gravel island surrounded by the creek immediately off the tee on hole 8), the disc must be surrounded by water to be OB.
Not included in the video, but extremely important, are the PDGA COVID-19 Best Practices. You are responsible for all of this information. In addition, note that the Commonwealth of Virginia has recommended a ten-foot (about 3-4 paces) separation between players. This is for your safety and the safety of everyone at the event.
Next, please check your tee times here. The course is located at Freedom Center in Lucketts, VA. You may not arrive at Freedom Center more than 25 minutes before your tee time. This is to ensure we comply with all Phase 2 restrictions. When you arrive, you will be directed to park near hole 1's teepad and you may warm up on the Scattersville course. Either John, Lindsay, Stephan, Ganz, or I will call you to the teepad as part of the two-minute signal. You will tee off in the order you're called by the announcer. We will probably play songs and have fun with this.
Remember: while on Freedom Center property, there is to be no drinking alcohol, no smoking or vaping, and no illegal drugs. Before you start in with "decriminalized," (1) that isn't the same as "legal" and (2) that law isn't in force until July 1, 2020, so, you know.
There will be no formal Tournament Central. Please don't hang around the staff; if you want to chat, let's do it at a distance. Respect that the volunteers running this event may have at-risk family members and need to minimize the risk of transmission, so as much as we want to hug you or shake your hand, we're going to have to decline right now. You are welcome to take COVID-19 as seriously or unseriously as you care to, so long as you respect everyone else's right to do the same.
Accordingly, there will also be no physical leaderboard, no paper scorecards, and no physical cash payouts.
PRO payouts will be done via PayPal (or Venmo, upon request; please allow an extra day or two for Venmo), and draft payouts are already posted (we're at $413 added cash!).
AM division winners will receive $10 gift card codes to Sabol Disc Golf; everyone else gets the pleasure of pure amateur competition (and PDGA ratings and points).
Scoring will be done through the PDGA Digital Scorecard. One member of the group will take scoring for the entire round, and the other members of the group may follow along live on PDGA.com if they wish to confirm hole scores as play progresses or check out their rivals' or friends' scores. To access the PDGA Digital Scorecard, you will point your phone's browser to pdga.com/score and enter the code BAM20. From there, you will enter your PDGA number and the scorecard will automatically populate with your card members. Hole teepads, distances, and OB notes will all be present on the Scorecard. See more about the PDGA Digital Scorecard and how it works.
Please bring whatever food you will need and as much water as you can safely carry. It's going to be hot, 90* highs, and you will need water. Emergency water in disposable bottles will be placed near the tees of holes 7 and 13; please touch only the bottle(s) you take. Hand sanitizer will be available at each of these holes, as well.
Let's be safe, be conscientious, and most of all: let's have fun, because that's what Brent would want us to do.
