About this club membership

Welcome to the 2023 Walton Disc Golf Club!

The Board and I are very excited for the things we have planned for the club and for the community in general.

This year we really want to see some amazing growth in not only the club but in the community the club is built to support. Our goal is not only to play some high quality enjoyable disc golf as a club but also to further the game we love within the community we live/frequent.

Some of the the things we have planned this year are:

Bag Tags:
We plan on starting Bag Tags basically imminently, tags are being purchased now and the rules are being formulated.

This year we plan on having a regular bag tag night (most likely Friday) where we will have organized competition for the tags.

We also will have rules/factors in place to avoid situations of someone with a high tag being able to sit/hide on their number for the whole season. Our goal is to have constant competition and multiple vying for those coveted top spots.

I can not to speak to anything actually set up but I also have some ideas on how we can make the top spots a little more exciting than just holding a low number tag, and if these ideas come to fruition i will absolutely let everyone know. I will actively keep a spreadsheet populated with the current standings and will facilitate a way to get matchup results from those that play each other.

The plan is to have the normal end of the year bag tag finale, but we also would like to see some mid season events as well to kind of keep everything fresh and relevant.

Leagues:
My goal is to have rotating leagues going from JRM to Heritage Pines on a 6-8 week cycle (Mid march - Early May JRM, Mid May - July Heritage pines etc). I would like for us to start around the time change in mid march. But that date is fluid and a more solid date will be forthcoming.

I will put out a poll of days I would be available to run the league without conflicts and hopefully find a day that works for the majority.

My loose plan is to have multiple divisions in the leagues with small layout differences (most likely just different divisions playing hole 13 differently at JRM from each other/reds and blues at heritage pines) in order to keep ratings within specific divisions/skill levels.

Tournaments:
The Board and myself specifically want to see more tournament action hosted by the club itself at our awesome courses. This not only brings awareness to the community, the club, and our courses. But it is a great way to build funds so that we can give back to the community in the way of course maintenance and future course designs.

We ask for your feedback on what you may want to see and not see in a tournament (especially at Heritage Pines) and hope that you would be understanding that this is not only our first time running an event like this but also most likely the first tournaments run out of the new course in Between.

That being said we have multiple tournaments currently in the plannings stages that I would like to share:

A single round tournament at Heritage Pines - we would like to start off with a simple one rounder to see how things go with running a tournament and see how things go bringing in 72 bodies playing a round at once at a new course.

A two round two course tournament (multiple times a year) - We would like to host a tournament that starts at JRM in the morning, has lunch on the premises provided by the WDGC, and then finishes in the afternoon with a round at Heritage Pines.

An annual three round tournament - This will be the big one, we hope to grow Heritage Pines into a sought after course in GA and hope to host a tournament that reflects that. This will be a Saturday 2 round tournament followed by a Final round on Sunday. All at Heritage Pines.

We will of course have other smaller events and tournaments that will pop up as we go. Some flex starts, Christmas cash, etc.

Weekly Dubs:
Wednesday night dubs will go largely unchanged, we do however have a few ideas to make things more fun and help grow the club.

One such change will be the new pre round ace bounty. WDGC will sponsor a pre round ace bounty of $25 to any active WDGC member. How it will work is, I will arrive by 5:15 to start signups/just be there to get ready and from 5:15-5:45 you have 30 minutes to hit an ace on any of the 9 holes surrounding the Lake. You get as many shots as you want on any hole you want (1-5, 15-18). The only requirements are that you buy in and play the dubs round that evening and be a club member. If no one hits the ace that week the bounty goes up by $5. Only one ace per week. So get there and start shooting, it will be a great way to warm up and maybe earn some free cash!

The other small change is that $1 from the $5 buy in will go to the club, this will fund things like course maintenance, glow lights, batteries, club sponsored CTPs and other things. The $3 bounty that is added during non glow dubs will be unaffected and will still go fully to the winners.

There is also plans to start (very soon) weekly dubs at Heritage Pines, the day currently being talked about is Sunday, the timing and final day is definitely up for discussion with those wanting to run things. As well as the layout, most likely will be red tees to bring more people, but that will be up for discussion/decision.

Member Perks:
We want your membership to feel valuable and not just a donation, personally I want any active member to be able to have their membership paid for through enjoying club events.

All members will receive $5 off any club hosted tournament.
We will have club sponsored raffles available to only WDGC members
Club only Wednesday night dubs pre round ace bounty
There is also a new disc golf store opening in Monroe with the possibility of WDGC members getting a discount (this is up for change/discussion based on the owners discretion)
Walton Take Overs - These are a ton of fun and we hope to continue to do them, all WDGC members will be invited and encouraged to join us as we travel all over GA and local states enjoying some really fun disc golf at courses not so local to us.
Welcome Pack - just a small token of appreciation for joining the club and some things that will help you share your WDGC pride
And Bag Tags - Tags will be available to club members and we hope everyone joins in on the fun

2023 Kickoff:
The board plans on hosting a 2023 kickoff within the next few months that will be an awesome family oriented hang out at JRM, food will be provided by the board and we will have various activities set up as well as disc golf. Just bring the family, come hang out, grab lunch, throw some plastic.

The WDGC Board and I are very excited for whats in store for us. And cant wait to grow with everyone.

But of course, if you have any questions, suggestions, ideas we would be thrilled to hear them. Just send me or any of the other board members a DM.

Lets get out there grow the sport and better our disc golf community.
