About this tournament
1 round of play
We are excited to announce the 1st Annual Slingin' for Service Dogs. This 1 round charity event will help raise money to place a service dog with a Military Veteran in need.
This years tournament will be helping local veteran and disc golfer Alina Melcher raise funds for her service dog. If you're not familiar with Alina, here is a message she provided for us.
My Name is Alina, I am a US Air Force Aircraft Armament System Tech 20WX1 veteran and permanently disabled. I joined the military after witnessing September 11th, 2001 in my classroom and experiencing an urgent need to do something about it. Enlisting at just 17 years old (my parents had to sign on my behalf), I graduated from basic training on my 18th birthday in 2003.
Working at Nellis AFB on the F/A-22 Raptors. I loaded missiles and guns on the raptor systems and was tasked with taking all the kinks out on the new systems as they were being put into service. I was excited and looking forward to my military career. Unfortunately, it was cut drastically short.
My military career was taken from me because of MST (Military Sexual Trauma). I am a mother to 3 teenage children, a daughter and twin boys. I have PTSD, anxiety and severe depression. Everyday situations outside of my home cause extreme fear, anxiety and stress. I suffer from depression and severe lack of vitamin D (which is very painful) because I am often afraid to leave my home alone.
A service dog will enable me to work towards getting my life back. My PTSD causes flashbacks and memories and service dog will help me through those very tough moments. After an extremely abusive and dangerous relationship, a service dog will help me feel safe in my home (as my abuser knows where I live). A service dog will help restore the confidence I need to leave the house alone and feel safe. A service dog will get me outside which will help with my depression. A service dog will enable me to step back into social situations and meet new people. I have recently found disc golf, which has been a new passion for me, but I still unfortunately have moments of anxiety and panic attacks in social situations, which disc golf usually is, and I know my service dog will help get me through those extreme emotional moments.
The Battle Ground 22 Foundation family will give me the support and opportunities I need to meet other veterans and veteran canine handlers who can understand what I’m going through and offer peer-to-peer support.

We will be playing a hybrid layout that Alina has picked. It is similar to the Sunday Crew Hybrid layout on Udisc with a few changes. This is a TROPHY ONLY event. ALL ENTRY FEES WILL BE DONATED. I am working on some unique trophies for divisions with 4 players by 8/31/23.
We hope you will join us in our efforts to make a veteran's life just a little bit easier. See you there!
