Since 2015 I've been fortunate enough to have played most all the courses in Hawaii, except for Kauai. Each course, like each Island, has their own Unique qualities that will make you say WOW! The scenery on each course has Breath taking views, and the Aloha Spirit I encountered from ALL the Dgolfers I've met and Golfed with,,, No Ka Oi'! Without question, Gargoyle Gardens in Mt. View, is the most challenging course on the Big Island. Owners Mike and Audrey Leitch have a BEAutiful 18 hole course on 25 acres, carved out in the old growth Rain Forest/Jungle! Mike has a Great variety of discs, shirts, and GG bag tabs available ON SITE! The money generated through sales goes to maintaining the course, so I encourage you to pick up some Gargoyle Gardens Dgolf gear when you visit! Hole 1 plays right out the front yard teeing off next to the KOI Pond, then winds through the property, with a variety of short and long holes, with multiple routs on each hole, through the trees, plants, and BEAUTIFULLY manicured fairways. There's not a lot of ground cover over the LAVA ROC in Hawaii, and most plants and trees have above ground roots and runners that will try and trip you up. Mikes does an EXCELLENT job clearing the fairways, but you want to be sure not to show up thinking you're going to play in your Slippa's! I did say Rain Forest. Even if its NOT raining, it's going to be wet out there, and chances are it will rain during your round at some point. BUT, you are in Hawaii, and it's a WARM rain!! Just remember a good pair of shoes, an Umbrella, munchies and FLUIDS! The Colorful mixture of native plants, flowers, and trees are abound through out the entire course! Everything from Palms and coconut trees to coffee and Lemon trees! My FAVORITE is the Dragon Fruit Plants on the dry stacked stone wall in the driveway! 3 things to remember PLEASE. 1)Call ahead of time and introduce yourself to Mike and tell him WHEN and how MANY would like to play. IF your plans change please CALL and let him know ASAP. 2)SUPPORT the Pro Shop!! Let Mike, Audrey, and the GG Work Crew know you APPRECIATE the HOURS of work and coasts to maintain the Course you're about to play! (Plus, who else at your home course has any Dgolf gear fro HAWAII?) 3) ALWAYS be mindful when visiting Hawaii. WE ARE GUESTS. RESPECT the LAND, SEA and PEOPLE. Hawaii is like no other place I've ever played Disc Golf! The People and the Aloha Spirit in the Hawaiian Islands is something SPECIAL I hope you all get experience at least once in your lifetime. I encourage you to play ALL the courses when you're on the Big Island!! Mahalo Mike and Audrey at GG, ALOHA
