Welcome to the Platypus Open, a Kaw Valley Disc Golf Club event. This is the first PDGA sanctioned event the Lawrence based club has hosted in its current iteration as an organized club.
TEE TIMES have been posted. You can find your tee time at the PDGA event page here:
https://www.pdga.com/tour/event/47645
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your tee time. I would actually recommend 60 minutes as you would for a normal tournament. There should be a practice basket available, but limited area to warm up near the practice area away from 9’s fairway. You will not be able to warm up on the course as players will be on the field.
PARKING: Very important. Only park on the EAST SIDE of the road, which is the side away from the course. The US Army Corps of Engineers is very particular that we DO NOT park on both sides of the road. If you park on the wrong side of the road, you could be liable for your car being towed.
TOILETS: Portable restrooms are located at the end of the road down by the boat dock. There isn’t a restroom at the course itself.
FOOD: There is a Casey’s (i.e. pizza and chicken nuggets) in Perry, and a Mexican diner in Ozawkie.
SCORING: We will be utilizing the PDGA online digital scoring application. It is not an app you have to download, rather you use it directly from their website at pdga.com/score. The access code is ‘Perry’. I will also have paper scorecards for you to use as a backup, but the official score is the online digital scoring. You will be required to submit your scores via this application.
- When you are done with your round, you need to ‘Finalize’ your score. This is not the same as just putting in your score for the last hole. You will get to a screen that lists each player with a Red X next to your name. After the whole card has reviewed your scores comparing them to the paper backup and confirmed if the score is correct, you need to tap on the player’s name and enter their PDGA number if they have one, or their enter their last name. Once you have done this, your score has officially been submitted and cannot be altered with the exception of any penalties levied by a TD. If you have played a provisional on any hole, do not confirm the score until after you have discussed the scenario with the TD.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE A NO-SHOW OR LATE PLAYER: If a player has missed their turn to tee off, they get Par + 4 for each hole they missed (7 on Par 4, 8 on Par 4, etc). If they show up when the card is halfway done with a hole, they have missed that hole and can start on the next hole. If a player does not show up for the entire event, keep giving them Par+4 for each hole (don’t try to remove them) and inform the TD on duty so we can then remove them from the system.
PLAYER PACKS / PAYOUTS / AWARDS: PP are only for the Recreational divisions, which is a True Amateur (i.e. trophy only) division. Intermediate and Advanced divisions are merchandise payout only with a trophy. Am payouts will be done by DZ Discs in Lawrence. You can either redeem at their brick and mortar store or their website dzdiscs.com. Pro divisions will be paid out via check after the last card has completed or via PayPal Goods & Services by Monday. Trophies will be awarded for each division as that division has completed.
VENDING: The USACE requires a percentage of gross receipts of the entire event if any money is collected onsite. Therefore to provide maximum value to you the player we will not be vending on site. Leftover discs with the tournament stamp will be sold at DZ Discs.
COURSE NOTES: Attached to this email is the course rules, pars and distances. A couple of key notes I want to make sure to point out.
Hole 2 - Please use the new walkway from the new basket location to the tee for Hole 3 to keep the flowing moving along.
The only water that is OB is the pond on 14 & 15. All other water is casual.
I believe that should cover it for all information you may need. If I haven’t addressed something, please let me know. Both TDs will be playing in the tournament. Rob will take the morning half with John Wubbels playing and Rob will be playing towards the end with John watching over things.
