A story from breast cancer survivor Jeanne Young:
Ruth,
Thank you for allowing me to share my story.
In September 2016 I was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. My life was forever changed.
Five months of chemotherapy, double mastectomy and five weeks of radiation made for an extremely difficult year.
In 2018 I was lucky enough to start the process of reconstruction. Fast forward to 2020…. four surgeries to rebuild my breasts and still not done. COVID has postponed my progress temporarily.
My story isn’t all about suffering and pain; It is about life and happiness. My family, my friends, my caregivers and so many strangers that I have met along the way have enabled me to get through the tough times. I will forever be grateful to my Daughter Jennifer and my Husband Rick who were by my side every step of the way. My love for life is immeasurable.
As my story has a happy ending there are many more stories of women that don’t have as happy as an ending. Many more that go through this journey alone and afraid, unsure of what tomorrow will bring.
For that reason we recognize the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness.
