A PDGA membership is $50 a year. Being a member gets you a player rating. Best way to kind of explain a player rating is a "handicap" it's a way to gauge what division you should play in & how you stack up to other players. If you're not a member it's an additional $10 every sanctioned event you play in, so think of it as if you plan on or play in at least 5 sanctioned events your membership is "paid for" & any sanctioned tournament after 5 you're "making" or saving money. It is not necessary to be a member but your entry will be $10 more. I hope this helps
