Yesterday afternoon I received notification from the City of St. Petersburg that due to the recent increase in COVID 19 cases in the Tampa area, that they were continuing the suspension of organized athletic activities within parks in St. Petersburg. Unfortunately, this means that this event scheduled for July 26th at Maximo Park cannot proceed as planned.
To attempt to remedy this, our staff immediately got in contact with both the City of Clearwater and the City of Tampa to try and host events at Cliff Stephens and Picnic Island Parks respectively. Both of those departments informed us that they also have suspensions on organized athletic activities. As a last resort we reached out to the Pinellas County Parks and Rec department and asked them if they would permit an event at Taylor Park again and they confirmed they could so long as we run it in the same fashion as our event last month.
This leaves us with 2 options:
1. ) Cancel this leg of the Tour Challenge, refund everyone and only play 3 legs of the Gulf Coast Tour Challenge.
2. ) Play this leg of the Tour Challenge at Taylor Park, reschedule the event for July 25th, and keep the course assignments for the final 2 legs of the challenge fluid as the pandemic situation evolves.
After discussing this extensively with our staff, we have decided that disc golf is better than no disc golf and we will be hosting the 2nd leg of The Gulf Coast Tour Challenge at Taylor Park on July 25th instead of at Maximo Park on July 26th.
If you are unhappy with this decision, or cannot attend the new date and would like to be withdrawn from the event with a full refund, please let us know ASAP so we can get that processed. I do apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, but these are the tough choices we have to make.
