OK everyone, let's get ready for the start of Wednesday Night League. We're going to make a whole bunch of changes. A lot of people have shared some great ideas to speed up rounds, prevent crowding, and help maintain social distancing.
First of all, if you have a smart phone, download uDisc, create a login and get used to using it. Thanks to Cameron Weber we're part of their beta testing for leagues. One big advantage is you can use the app to check in, which means you might not have to stand in line every week. Show up, check in digitally, and start playing. Also, you'll be able to keep track of everyone's raw scores before they are posted. FUN! Just make sure your full name is visible when you submit your score. Don't make me guess who "Tree" is (I know who Tree is, now). Paper scorecards will no longer be accepted. If you don't have a smartphone with uDisc, please make sure you get on a card with someone who has it. One person can check in the whole card. To check in, open uDisc, click Events, click Schenley Park Wednesday, and check yourself and anyone else in.
Second, league fees are still $4 + $1 for the ace pot. But now you have options. You can still pay the old fashioned way with cash or you can pay digitally with Venmo. You can send funds to [email redacted] any time and I'll add it to your balance. If you want to put $20 in there at the beginning of the month, that's cool too.
Now, if your whole card checks in with uDisc and pays with Venmo (or you have a $5 balance), you don't need to stand in line for check in. Just go play! If you get there before me, that's fine. Go. One big thing I'm trying to avoid is the big line at 4:45PM. If you pay and check in digitally, you can start your round anytime between 3:00 and 6:00 PM.
Now, I'm going to ask for opinions on payouts. Say you win $10 one week. How about I just hang on to that $10 to pay for your next round or two? How about if I owe you less than, say, $20 you just leave it on your balance to pay for future rounds? Or maybe we cash out at the end of each month? I'm open to suggestions here. If you really need the change from the $7 you won in a 9th place tie, I can get it to you, but it seems like it would be a lot easier for everyone just to let it ride until the following week.
Other changes... please keep groups to 3-4 only. Please don't go out in groups of five if possible. Also, there will be no blue tee rounds this year. COVID is still looming and this is one step we can take to avoid large congregations around the teepads.
I expect there will be some confusion the first couple of weeks. We'll work through it. Please ask questions here or email or Facebook message me.
