This was the 1st tournament I ever played in and I was fortunate enough to win the intermediate am division. It cost me around $45 to enter since I don't have a PDGA number and the prize for winning was $26 in swap credit. The players pack was a hat, mini, and a hand towel if you were early enough to grab one. All and all I'd have to say it's a losing proposition financially even if you get the win in the largest field. I'm all for capitalism and I'm sure someone is making a buck on the event, as they should, but as a truly amateur player they're is nothing in it but a chance at the glory. It would be nice to have something to show for it though at least, like a souvenir or something. I've since attended a couple other local tournaments and seen how the am payouts go, prizes, and even custom trophies etc. Overall some pretty cool and creative items. Not sure if these are donated or what, but definitely would add to the event. My homies aren't entering this year so I won't even have bragging rights on the line, but I will be there to defend the title 100% for the glory. I didn't post this prior to the event filling up bc my intention isn't to deter anyone, but merely to set a clear expectation as I had a higher one when I entered last year and it was a let down to have "lost $20" when winning.. the tournament was well run, was a good time, and I enjoyed the event so I got what I paid for.
