In short, 300 local and state USAMPC Singles brackets were held over the last 2 months, hugely successful. With fewer Doubles brackets than anticipated, the Doubles rules have been revised to accommodate the expectations. Please see discgolfmatchplay.com.
Key changes include:
• Local brackets can now be run in both July and August (instead of just July).
• We need at least 8 teams in our local bracket (maximum of 15). If we have 16 teams, we will run two brackets.
• The team fee is being reduced from $90 ($45 per player) to $80 ($40 per player). If you’ve paid already, the difference will be refunded.
• There is no longer a state/province qualifier. Winners of local qualifying brackets will be eligible to compete in a final bracket in Emporia in September (9/28-30). There will NOT be any cash provided to qualifying doubles teams coming to Emporia for travel expenses.
• Store credit will increase from $200 to $250, $100 to $150, and $50 to $100 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
• The state final prizes in September will be valued at a minimum of $7,500 and first place will receive a minimum of $4,000 in Dynamic Discs store credit.
Last but not least....
Winning teams of local brackets will also be eligible for priority GBO registration in 2019 one week prior to general registration opening for the amateur pools.
Granted, not every issue that comes up will have an easy solution. However, lessons learned from each year of trying new things keep us on our toes and always testing the limits of what we can do to help promote disc golf competition for a player base that just keeps growing!
