With the importance of the meeting taking place regarding the Nestrom Park Disc Golf Course (Fruitland Township), we have decided to cancel tonight's regularly scheduled league to give league members an opportunity to show support for that park. The chair of the Parks and Recreation Committee planning to take action to close the course at tonight's meeting, citing the threat of Oak Wilt Disease and other various issues that have come up.

The crux of the issue is that property owners on both sides of the park want it gone, so they have "Hired" the assistance of the Chicago based Duck Lake Riparian Property Owners group to wage an ugly misguided campaign to close the course, citing Oak Wilt as the Reason. We all know that this is not the reason, and if the precedence is set here, this could be detrimental to existing and new courses throughout the State of Michigan.

Keep in mind that the Fruitland Township government officials are supportive of this project, it is just the Chairperson of the P & R Committee that has changed some viewpoints and has a good chance to have this park shut down. This is the same person that voted to approve the course and the purchase of baskets. She is overly influenced by this outside group, and we feel does not have the townships best interest in mind.
