Event Update:
Welcome to the year of bulging tournament schedules. When we created the Next Gen Qualifiers in December and January the regions schedules were largely unknown and our TDs and Regional Coordinators worked with what we had to create the schedule. Given it’s our first time around the block, we weren’t perfect and we’ve found that some events were scheduled on better weekends than others. Next year we will do better. We’ve had requests from all over the country asking whether another event can be created in their region because the qualifier conflicts with yada yada tournament.
Being the new kids on the block we are in a position to be flexible and creative compared to the others. We've piloted the Half-Cap is what it sounds. Capping the field at 27 players rather than 54 and inviting 6 rather than 12. The competitor odds and integrity are maintained and allows us to schedule another 27 person event in the region to award the remaining 6 spots.
Working together with the TDs, in concert with the other Region 1 Qualifier we are piloting the 3/4 Cap. Capping the field at 40 and offering 9 spots.
If the waitlist reaches 14 players, we’ll revert back to a full 54 cap with 12 spots offered.
The 3/4-Cap, along with pooling declined invitations, will help us bring more qualifiers around the regions and appeal to a broader audience. All will maintaining the quality and integrity of the tour.
How does this impact you? The odds to qualify are the same, 1 spot for every 4.5 competitors – no change there. The smaller field will likely result in faster play.
Thanks in advance for your understanding and we look forward to a great Qualifier this weekend.
