DGLA: Michigan Cooperative Point Series - Winter 2016/17 *** 7th Annual   February 28, 2017 at 7:03pm

DGLA: MiCPS - Winter 2016/17 - An Initial Peek....

Ok the leaderboard has not locked yet but I just had to take a look at some of the stats to see how things are Rounding up.

Given it's winter there are not as many Aces as in the Summer season so the stats normally show that the more the good players play the more points they get and so you can often look at the number or rounds played and they are in order as you go down the leaderboards from the top spot on down. Something is a miss this winter - besides the warmer weather....

So taking a look at the leaderboard sorted by number of rounds.

Top 10 by Most Played Rounds

5 Jay B 398 26 (Again.... :-)
1 Scottie Reslock 522 25
7 Joe Phipps 372 24
3 Danny Fifer 516 22
9 Dave Connors 364 22
14 Tim Gacioch 320 21
2 Phil "Puttimus Prime" Common 520 20
4 Brian Hyzertron Crouch 407 20
11 "Mag1c" Mike V 352 20
11 Craig Clingan 352 19

Ok first thing I notice is that Jay B was also at the top of this list last year. Again my hats off to you Jay I wish I could get out that often and play as consistent as you.

Last Winter Leaderboard
1 Chad Hutchison 23 rounds 949
2 Jay B 53 rounds 815

Now you are off your record mark of 53 rounds played last winter to down to 26 this season but still our most rounds played. Wrapping up the top 10 by most played rounds is Craig Clingan tied at 11th place with 352 points after 19 rounds.

Now almost all the top ten from our Overall leaderboard are in this list - remember the trend - the top players normally have played the most rounds. Note Scott Sprow did not make the top 10 list above as he only had 18 rounds, in which he earned 378 points and has him currently in 6th place. So that just means he had a higher Points per Round Average. Nice shooting Scott.

So let's take a look at Points per Round Average (P/RA)

Besides identifying the best consistent players it also helps identify the sleepers who if they just played more rounds at their current success rate they would have been at the top of the leaderboard.

Who had the highest P/RA?

130 Bill "El Nueve" Chapman 61 1 61

Ok just one round but what a nice round:

61 total points · Bill "El Nueve" Chapman
Round history
-14 40 Jan 25 WC GLOW FALL/WINTER 2016-2017 Bandemer Park
White tees and red tees, 18 holes
Partner Danny Fifer 36 points 1st place

Hole 3 25 points Ace Hole 3

But what a round - An Ace for some great COLD winter cash and a Win. Nicely done Bill.
Hope to see you out more often now that the weather is warming up.

OK I normally exclude anyone who has less than 3 rounds - So here is the Top 11 based on Points per Round Average (P/RA):

pos, name, pt tot, # rounds, P/RA
91 Skyler Stoker 97 3 32.33333333
94 brent moreno "WPD" 89 3 29.66666667
36 Bart Kowalewski 205 7 29.28571429
105 Aaron Nitz 81 3 27
32 Ryan Herzog 215 8 26.875
7 Jason Jopps 372 14 10 1 26.57142857
34 Brooke Plantz 212 8 26.5
16 Ben Calhoun 291 11 26.45454545
2 Phil "Puttimus Prime" Common 520 20 9 7 26
106 Nate Buban 78 3 26
106 brandon oleskie 78 3 26

So for the guys like Skyler with the highest P/RA but with only 3 rounds and brent, Aaron, Nate and Brandon. I consider you guys the Sleepers. Just need to get a few more rounds in per season and with this kind of P/RA you will be sitting at the top of the leaderboard.

Now for Bart, Ryan, Jason, Brooke, Ben & Phil "Puttimus Prime" Common - you guys represent the most consistent point accumulators and given you achieved that with at least 7 rounds to 20 rounds that is an amazing accomplishment - Congrats. Get a few more rounds or sneak in an extra Ace or two to clinch that top spot.

So next I look at the top 10 on the leaderboard to see what it took to get there this year. As mentioned above the normal winter trend did not hold true. I'll gather all the details and summarize them after Saturday when the Leaderboard locks and we can official name our DGLA: Michigan Cooperative Point Series - Winter 2016/17 *** 7th Annual Disc Golf League Champion.

But as I was looking at the top players I notice this round from

Jan 25 WC GLOW FALL/WINTER 2016-2017
Bandemer Park
White tees and red tees, 18 holes
Partner Bill Chapman 36 points 1st place
Hole 3 25 points Ace Hole 3
Hole 1 25 points Ace Hole 1

Some of those details may look familiar if you recall Bill "El Nueve" Chapman's round above for his high P/RA. Yes his partner Danny Fifer not only hit an Ace on the same hole but hit two in the same round. Nice Shooting Danny.

Now that may seem Crazy or Amazing, so just I had to check and talked with Scott Sprow the League admin of WC Glow for the details and if those three Aces on the same team is not amazing enough there were 5 Aces total that night. OK half the round was from Reds but that is still an amazing Ace Night of Glow. Maybe not so exciting splitting the Ace pool 5 ways and there were more points (25 / Ace) than dollars with a Payout of $21.50/Ace but what a night. Unusual for the winter rounds but awesome and no matter how cold it was these guys had a round to remember. I need to get my Glow on....

Well until Sunday - Peace and enjoy the Rounds.

Brian Hyzertron Crouch   February 28, 2017 at 4:10pm

Also for that crazy round at WC Glow Danny had 2 aces, Bill had 1 and Bo had one of the other 2 and he was on the same card as bill and Danny. So 4 aces on 1 card in 18 holes!!!!! And there was a pre league ace that night too! That was a night I think non of us will ever forget as far as league rounds go

Bo Fought   February 28, 2017 at 5:01pm

Yup. Pretty ho-hum round from whites for our card, then it got crazy when we hit the reds. Started on Hole #3, Bill aced then Danny covered that up with another ace (same team). Made the turn and Danny hit #1 and then I snagged #2 with a walk off ace to end the night. Fun night to keep score. :)

Bo Fought   February 28, 2017 at 5:03pm

I believe Freeland hit #2 pre-round and then Pete Boucher hit hole 5 (?) for the 5th official ace of the night. $22.00 per ace that night.

WOW!
