Basically, Am Worlds should be primarily for the top Am players in their respective divisions, to the greatest extent possible. Lower-level Am players should be free to attend on a first-come, first-served basis, but only AFTER the top Am players have been given a chance to register.We don't need a perfect solution, we just need a workable one that is better. I think there should be a 48 hour window at the beginning of registration, where only players who are ratings qualified for their division can register. I realize that there are not ratings limits for age-protected divisions, so just make some reasonable ones for registration. For MM1, 920+ seems appropriate, for MG1, perhaps 900+? I don't know, but there are people with the necessary familiarity with the ratings system who could propose fair cutoffs for early reg for every division. At the very least, that would prevent a scenario like this year, where only about 30% of the MA1 field is actually above the 935 ratings threshold for MA1. They could also reserve spots for winners, or perhaps even top 3 finishers in larger divisions, of major AM tourneys (like bowling green), or something like that.
