it was brought to my attention that a player in am 3 was rated over 900 and was still allowed to compete today. this may have unfairly affected the births and payouts for the tournament. just curious if this is normal. May 22, 2016

Yes this is normal. If a player registers for an event while his rating is below 900 he can register for AM3. I a rating update happens before the event that changes his rating he is still allowed to compete in the event in the division he registered for as long as the event happens within 2 weeks of the ratings update.

What Doug Said. Iwas made aware of this by the player in question. If this were a 1 day event I would of made him play Am 2. But since he signed up within the guidelines set by the PDGA and this may have changed his plans for the weekemd I allowed this.

Most of the TD's I know would have made the same decision with the same circumstances. I don't necessarily agree with the player's decision to register for the lower division knowing that his skills are better than the players in that division, that is my opinion and what he did was well within the rules of the PDGA. And when I asked Keith about it yesterday, he told me that if it was not a two day split format and all divisions were playing on the same day, he would have bumped him up.
Zack Allen May 25, 2016Rules are rules sometimes they suck but your comment about not wanting to ruin his weekend makes no sense considering he was signed up for both days and won both days.
Keith Aten May 25, 2016Yea I didnt see that til Sun so.....
