It's no longer a tournament. It's just an event to raise money for the course. That said, there is still competition and money flowing through it. It's set up to be more fun than a regular tournament. I doubt it'd be a waste of time for most who choose to compete and participate. I've had more fun in this style of play in the past than most tournaments. It's mob golf with everyone driving and one person putting. It's fun!
