Hunter S. Dotson  › Water Works Park   January 22, 2013 at 2:36am

Talk time.. What would people like to see added / changed (within reason) on this course this coming spring. I would like to draw up a detailed plan for a work day so I can email it to the city for approval.

My personal thoughts.
- Tee markers
- Wooded bulletin board
- Some love and attention to the pavilion
- More trash cans
- Turn the ball diamond lights on till 9-10 p.m (Or whenever the park is posted to be closed)
- Benches on hole 2 and possible others.
Any other suggestions.... Sega

I would say make nothing that can easily be destroyed. Benches hole 2 really don't need but would be ill. The holes should be remeasured.i was going to make tee signs last year but figured a bum would destroy it and calhounaburger was giving me mad salt. Salt

And yes sega

Trash cans, porta-john.

Mike Even   January 21, 2013 at 7:12pm

eventually I would like to see a more lite up parking lot. I know b-ball diamond will help in summer, but more for winter time.

Hunter S. Dotson   January 21, 2013 at 7:25pm

I thought a bench neqr the tees on 2 as well as near the basket would be a nice touch for the fishermen. salt

tee markers in field need to be below grass level, could use flat pavers, maybe etched or carved somehow? or make signs out of a wooden block instead of bricks, marking the front corners. #2 blue tee could move up on hill closer to #1 basket, eliminate white tee, make old blue the new white tee

Mike Even   January 22, 2013 at 8:13am

tee markers will be where ever Gabe gets approval from the city. I feel confident our Admiral can woo the city proppa

Hunter S. Dotson   January 22, 2013 at 8:15am

;) All in the sales pitch

Nick Pacific   January 22, 2013 at 8:58am

I'll echo what Ben says, great ideas. I've played on the pavers before and they are awesome. They are inexpensive, you can mow the grass right over them, and they can be moved easily if you want to mix the course up. Plus they are easy to install.

Nick Pacific   January 22, 2013 at 9:01am

I'd say it needs trash cans first and foremost. Secondly #2 blue tee needs moved up. I'm not sure where to move it, is there any area behind the white tee? Maybe we need to chop out a path/line for the shot a bit.

As for trash cans, any cans that do get placed should be half buried. Can't remember which course I played, but all of the trash cans were down in the ground and it seemed made perfect sense.

Brian Lucier   January 22, 2013 at 10:32am

Engraved paved markers with up to date distances would be awesome. A place I used to work used this company for memorial pavers like this http://www.polarengraving.com/brick-colors.php#.UP6u9uhaJVc. There are multiple companies that do them for around $20 a piece. There are probably things that need attention before fancy pavers.

Hunter S. Dotson   January 22, 2013 at 10:33am

With regards to Trash Cans.. The city will more than likely want them placed so that whom ever comes to empty will not have to walk the entire course. So realistically think about hole 1, 7 , 8. I think that should be good at first but we still need to show the city that people are using that cour ... more

Brian Lucier   January 22, 2013 at 11:01am

Will the city allow t-pads? I havent been in previous talks about this so I wasnt sure if it was money or the city not allowing it?

Hunter S. Dotson   January 22, 2013 at 11:34am

A little of both Brian.. They are a little stand off ish to the idea and I have been trying to gain some ground with the conversation. At this point I think it will still be a year or so down the line, But with the city improving the path that connects the Ypsi parks system I think we can piggy back with their beautification projects

ken "sega salt" moote   January 22, 2013 at 11:51am

what about space for new holes, just in general can it ever be done?

Nick Pacific   January 22, 2013 at 12:21pm

The area across the street from hole 9's tee is ripe for some sweet holes. From behind the baseball diamond all the way to the street (I think its grove), you could easily squeeze in several pins with multiple placements. I'm not sure about all that land across the river from hole #1, but I bet you could throw a bunch of holes back in there as well.

[member not found]   January 22, 2013 at 12:48pm

I think that this convo is getting away from the possibilities of the next work day. It would be cool to add more holes, but I doubt the city would be open to it just yet, and I don't think the funds are there anyway.

[member not found]   January 22, 2013 at 12:50pm

I think a bulliten board right at the end of the parking lot looking toward hole 1's pin, with a course map showing distances would be cool. Small boxes to hold score cards and pencils could be affixed to that as well at minimum cost I expect.

ken "sega salt" moote   January 22, 2013 at 12:51pm

this is just talk this is getting in the way of nothing.sega

Hunter S. Dotson   January 22, 2013 at 12:59pm

Yes the land is ripe for the picking, Holes would have to take the Road into effect and not endanger any peoples. If we prove that the park is being used they might let us expand. Sega

Brian Lucier   January 22, 2013 at 1:01pm

I vote the bulletin board as the most likely upgrade to be vandalized...

ken "sega salt" moote   January 22, 2013 at 1:04pm

yes agree with brian.this is water worksss ( bum nation).this needs to be indestructible or damn near.im sorry but NOTHINGGG to nice nice can ever go here.straight up

ken "sega salt" moote   January 22, 2013 at 1:05pm

nice nice whoops only one nice there.

"Jacob Quiton   January 22, 2013 at 1:33pm

We need trash cans out there

Hunter S. Dotson   January 22, 2013 at 1:50pm

Yes nothing nice can go out there yet, Yes what ever we put out there will more than likely be set on fire, shot and then stolen for scrap. Trash cans are being placed on the Spring time wish list.

Nick Pacific   January 22, 2013 at 1:59pm

In respects to what Dan is saying, I think the most immediate needs that is most fixable would be trash cans on 1, 7 and 8, and to move Blue #2 tee. I think you many are too quick to think the park is ripe for vandalism. Vandalism can happen in any area and is most likely to occur in places that att ... more

Brian Lucier   January 22, 2013 at 2:40pm

So we are trying to bring a higher volume into an area thats not the safest and richest community? There may not be high traffic on the disc course but your guaranteed to run into some non discing locals on the course and some sitting in their cars in the parking lot...I digress, trashcans!

Hunter S. Dotson   January 22, 2013 at 3:45pm

Now now now Skeeter.. He ain't trying to hurt no body..

Brian Lucier   January 22, 2013 at 4:52pm

Was I hurting someones feelings? Sorry. I kindly disagree. Trashcans!

Sean Newland   January 22, 2013 at 5:45pm

Bleachers need to be relocated to somewhere other than in the middle of Hole #1's Fairway from White and Blue Tees. Picnic Benches need to be added to Hole #1 by Red Tee(out of the way from white and blue) for groups to gather and for TD's and Leagues to have a place to Register. Fire pit ... more

[member not found]   January 23, 2013 at 1:15am

I agree that the bleachers should be moved into their intended positions along side the fences of the ball diamond.

Mike Even   January 23, 2013 at 8:25am

you guys just need to learn how to shot around them....and you call yourselves Pirates :P

Hunter S. Dotson   January 23, 2013 at 8:41am

We can move them bleeechers this Sunday.

Mike Even   January 23, 2013 at 9:10am

chicken

Ben Calhoun   January 23, 2013 at 9:23am

bleachers are an obstacle..

Mike Even   January 23, 2013 at 10:50am

Admiral....There are still a number of gopher/animal holes that could be filled in. Issue we ran into over by the baseball diamond was we ran out of dirt to fill the holes. Obviously we'll have to venture into the woods and grab some dirt. But I know there's some on 3, 4, 5, 6 for sure. Possible #2 as well

Sean Newland   January 23, 2013 at 1:50pm

We need poison to kill the gophers first or they will just re-dig the holes :P

Mike Even   January 23, 2013 at 2:12pm

I will lolz if the city lets us declare chemical war on the rodents

Sean Newland   January 23, 2013 at 2:14pm

You can buy worms that look like rubber fishing bait, and it contains poison that will kill gophers, simply drop in the hole and then cover with dirt. Keeps other animals and people safely away from it and city would have no way of knowing lol

Sean Newland   January 23, 2013 at 2:15pm

plus with gophers gone, so will the hazardous holes.

Mike Even   January 23, 2013 at 2:34pm

idk.....Spackler couldn't get ride of them at Bushwood Country Club. "In the immortal words of Jean Paul Sartre, 'Au revoir, gopher'." - Carl Spackler,
