A note from your tournament director:
Hello everyone. Unfortunately, I had to do something today that I have never had to do before: cancel a round of a disc golf tournament. Due to the conditions on the course, I suspended play at the fifth annual Treedirection Disc Golf Open after the completion of one round.
I know this came as a disappointment to many who played today. There was still some great competition out there despite the weather, and I would have loved to see how everyone finished the event. However, the conditions became atrocious, with soaking rain and powerful wind gusts throughout the afternoon. I received multiple reports of slips and falls, and I personally witnessed a large portion of a tree collapse due to the wind. I would have felt far worse if someone had been seriously injured because we chose to continue.
I know this was not the outcome anyone wanted, and I truly appreciate everyone’s understanding while we worked through a difficult situation. A huge thank you to all of the players for your support, and especially to our BNDG crew — Santos Torres, Matthew Girdlestone, and Trevor Goodyear — for everything you did to help navigate the chaos this afternoon.
All payouts will be handled virtually. Professional cash payouts will be sent via PayPal, and Amateur winnings will be delivered as Spartan Discs gift cards to the email address used during registration. Thank you to Spartan for stepping up to help make this process smooth so we could ensure payouts remained fair and accurate despite so many players leaving early.
