It should either be A/B pool or two divisions (a pro division and an am division). From reading below, it seems the latter did not work. A/B is a lot more fair and competitive than random draw. If it is completely random, then two real good putters will undoubtedly get paired up every week, and everyone else may as well leave, because they are going to win.
Another thing to remember, we are all very competitive, hell we play golf in the winter. Don't forget to just have some fun. It's $5 and we all get to drink some beer and see friends throughout the winter. We should be so lucky just to have a facility that allows in their doors and to have some great guys running the league for us (thanks John, Ken, Shawn, Ryan and anyone I missed).
Hats off to the guys who run the league. It is a pain in the ass ( I know - because I've been there / done that). And although I can't be there every week, like Derek said, I will be there no matter how the divisions are set up.
