There are actually a few reasons we landed on this layout for the tournament:
1. With a single, consistent layout we wanted to avoid any confusion that can come with playing mixed layouts across rounds. This includes not just confusion during the tournament, but in preparations, playing a single layout is much easier to prepare for.
2. While we'll be the first to acknowledge that hole 7 isn't the strongest on the card, we do feel that many of the holes on this layout represent the best — or at least equal — options compared to the alternatives. This layout has also appeared in a number of mixed all-star setups over the years, which speaks to the quality of many of its holes. Also this layout does give us a chance to highlight the new basket location on hole 8.
3. With this being a three-round tournament featuring Chris Greene Lake and the Long Layout at Miller, we also wanted Walnut Creek to offer a scoring opportunity. The par 4s on holes 6, 12, and 18 give players a real chance to make up ground, which adds a nice dynamic to the overall tournament experience.
We hope that helps explain our thinking. We always want to put on the best event possible, and we genuinely value input like yours as we continue to improve!
