Thanks for registering for Factory Disc Golf!
This is your player email with logistics for tomorrow’s event.
This idea is something I’ve dreamt of doing since the moment I learned I’d be moving to Upland. This space makes for a unique disc golf experience and I LOVE doing things differently! I am glad you agree and signed up!
I am also thrilled to be doing this event to raise money for our family. For the last 13 years, I’ve been traveling to East Africa to train pastors and plant churches as a volunteer. Now, we get to do that work full-time. It has been building toward this for some time so this really is a dream come true for us. We’ve trained over 4,000 pastors and planted over 140 churches in Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Pakistan so far; that will only accelerate now with us on the ground.
Let’s get to the tournament though.
Let’s start with the basics of the space:
We will be playing at Pierce Church, located at 201 N 8th St. Upland, IN.
You will want to park in the middle of the lot since fairways are on both ends. You will see that marked on the map in black.
Tourney Central is inside the first entrance, marked “Cafe Entrance” on the sign at the end of the path and is also marked on the map in blue.
Restrooms are located in the building at Tourney Central.
Start your day at Tourney Central:
Sign-in for your round so I know you are here.
We’ve got paper scorecards and pencils since this course doesn’t exist outside of this day. You can also opt to find a way to track it on your phone if you wish, as long as I get a paper card at the end with final scores.
We also have printed maps of the course. You may also choose to use the Google Map link if that is easier. On the map, you will see:
Orange lines to baskets for holes
Yellow lines telling you where to go for the next tee
Black box for parking
Blue box for Tourney Central
Every player gets a player pack of two discs of their choice from a selection of 500 lost and found discs courtesy of the Fort Wayne Disc Golf Club. You are not obligated to use them for this round. Those are in the large bins to the left of check-in.
Each player also gets a raffle entry. We have multiple prizes to put a ticket in for so prizes get spread out. Extra tickets are for sale tomorrow too to add to our pot. I will have you write your name on them and draw before the last round of the day so I can make sure to get them all to whoever wins them without having to call numbers and hope you are still there.
If you paid into the Ace pool, that will be paid out to aces via PayPal after the event. LOTS of short ace-able holes on this course!
I will be vending Disc Golf with a Purpose’s stock of new discs to the right of the check-in desk. Prices are as marked and I can accept cash, check, Venmo, and PayPal. All profits from the sales for tomorrow goes directly to our cause.
There are awesome trophies for first place in every division. Shoutout to Austin Kraner for making those for us. One or two divisions still have no one in them currently so invite someone to come compete and get one; every division has one!
Let me tell you about the course:
We have 18 holes, all par 3’s.
The first 4 holes are played out by the baseball field, including one in the dugout. Holes 5-7 and 11-12 are parking lot holes. Holes 8-10 and 14 are inside the building. Holes 13 and 15-18 play around the building. Holes 6 and 16 have baskets inside a garage where the garage door is the only entrance.
Here are the OB rules. Unless otherwise marked, the rules apply to all. You will probably want to have this email handy but for the most part they are common sense:
Hole 1: On or over the road to the right
Hole 2: In the baseball field
Hole 3: None
Hole 4: None
Hole 5 (MPO, FPO, MA1 only): Parking lot
Hole 6: None
Hole 7 (MPO, FPO, MA1 only): Parking lot
Hole 8: None
Hole 9: None
Hole 10: None
Hole 11: Parking lot
Hole 12: None
Hole 13: None
Hole 14: None
Hole 15: None
Hole 16: None
Hole 17: On or over road to the right
Hole 18: On or over road to the right, on or over driveway long
If you end up with a disc on a roof, we won’t be going up tomorrow. I can go up at some point but not tomorrow.
Similarly, over the fence along the west and south of our property (holes 7, 11, 12, 15, 16 are affected here) is not our property and you will not get your disc back from there. Think Sandlot: don’t go over there. He literally had dogs to guard it at one point, but that is a rabbit trail for another day.
There is a lot of concrete and metal on this course (factory disc golf) so, as Josh Elkins put it this week, “don’t bring your fine china” when it comes to your discs. Plus side: if you’ve got discs that need seasoned, this is a golden opportunity!
This is an unsanctioned fun round so be competitive but also extend grace when it comes to things like new players, rules violations, etc. Also, keep in mind this is a church and also a family-friendly event so please no alcohol or smoking of any kind and be mindful with the language.
If you need anything or have questions, my number is 260-416-7671. You can text or call throughout the day.
Otherwise, I’ll see you out there tomorrow!
