Hi Jacob, thanks for your question. I could just give a quick “no” — registration is already closed and I’m not adding any further competitors — but since I get this question often enough, I wanted to provide a bit more detail.
This is an ongoing challenge for all Tournament Directors (TDs). A registration deadline is set, and as soon as it passes, messages start coming in asking if players can still sign up—even though registration is officially closed.
In some cases, this is a simple situation: if the event is full or there’s a waitlist, the answer is clearly no. The real complexity arises when considering cancellation policies and refunds. According to PDGA guidelines, if registration is reopened after it has closed, any players who were previously denied refunds may now be entitled to them—essentially requiring TDs to retroactively adjust refund decisions.
While this may not seem like a major issue, it's important to understand the bigger picture. Most TDs are volunteers. Even when there is a small TD fee or some limited compensation, it often amounts to just a few dollars per hour once you account for the time spent planning the event—not just on tournament day, but also creating caddy books, setting up registration on Disc Golf Scene, responding to emails, filing PDGA reports, and cleaning up after the event is over.
I genuinely appreciate every question I receive, and I always try to respond thoughtfully. Sometimes I may give a direct “no,” but I usually have a good reason backed by policy or practical considerations.
I strive to keep registration open as long as possible while still allowing enough time to get everything organized. However, once I close registration, I do my best not to reopen it—even if it means ending up with a few open spots due to late cancellations. I understand this can be frustrating, but consistency and fairness are important to maintaining a well-run event.
I fully understand that this is my personal process, and every TD has the option to handle the situation as they see fit. Their decision to add or not to add players after registration closes should be equally respected.

More often then not TD's aren't given the thanks they deserve as tournaments wouldn't happen without them, so i quite appreciate your time, but also taking the added time to fill me in on your process as well.
