My version of a caddy book for this weekend (also emailed to all players):
First let me say, thanks so much for playing with us this weekend! The weather is going to be beautiful, the course is already beautiful, and we are going to have a blast out there!!!
There is parking close to tournament central, once that fills up you'll find parking on the left side of the driveway as you drive onto the property.
You are playing in an A-Tier and as such comes with an increased scrutiny on the details, one of them is the dress code. If you're not familiar, you can find all the info here: https://www.pdga.com/rules/competition-manual/304
There are a couple of notes that apply to the tournament overall.
The Preserve hosts a number of events during the year and you are likely going to see remnants of past OBs and other course details that will not apply to us this weekend. Please ignore any white stakes on the water's edge. They do not indicate OB, this weekend we will be using standard OB rules with regards to water. There are many creeks that criss-cross the course, but they all seem to be dry. You still don't want to be in them as the weeds can be brutal, but it will not cost you a penalty stroke.
There are old sand bunkers out on the course, they have no special designation for this weekend, just a little squishier-stance than normal!
Please pay attention to what's around you, with this many layouts there are a few spots where you could come in contact with players on a different fairway. In all cases, please wait until the coast is clear so we avoid anyone getting hurt.
If you do experience an emergency while on the course, your first call should be to 911. Then please let me know via my cell-phone at 404-664-2797. If someone has a twisted ankle or has become heat-stressed, we can get them back to tournament central via our golf cart.
There are porta-johns in the parking lot near tournament central, and also out at Hole 10 on Timberwolf. We will have coolers with water on Hole #12 on each of the courses.
The Preserve has nicely groomed fairways and punishing rough, please keep an eye on each other's shots and provide assistance when you can. If you find yourself searching for your disc, remember to keep the search under 3-minutes. Provisional shots are your friend out here, use them as needed.
Now to some nitty-gritty notes, this is mostly for players that might not be familiar with the layouts. I know some of you have traveled great distances to be here and we want you to not get lost!
Timberwolf
1. This is your introduction to the "stuff," you'll see it on the water's edge to the left. You do not want to be "in the stuff" - now stop looking at it, the fairway is huge. Your approach shot will most likely have to clear the pond as well, don't panic.
2. Welcome to Timberwolf. We've all watched and giggled as the DGPT Pros miss the mando, well now it's your turn. If you miss the Mando, move up to the "red carpet" tee-pad with a penalty and try again. You still have to clear the mando from the drop zone, repeat until accomplished.
3. The Basket is in the left position
4. Simple, just stay on the fairway
5. Short & Sweet
Getting to Hole 6, is a hike, you'll come out of the woods onto the driveway, take a left and walk past Tournament Central, past the porta-johns, and you'll go past Hole 18's basket.
6. Water-danger on the right side all the way
7. Water-danger on the right side all the way
8. Don't go long, "stuff" is very close beyond the basket.
9. There is a pond in front of the green. Normal water OB rules apply
10. Porta-john to the left of the tee-pad. There are players approaching on the left side of the fairway, no reason to be over there.
11. You'll find the Mississippi river about 50' past the basket
12. The creek that usually crosses the fairway, is dry
13. There is a Mando on the right at the cart path, the drop zone is right under the Mando on the cart path itself.
Getting to Hole 14, leave 13's basket to the left over to the driveway, go left and look for white sign with red arrow on the right. Up and over cart path and you'll see 14
14. Basket up on the mound, you got this!
15. Water danger about 30' past the basket
16. Please wait for anyone on Hole 17 to clear, water danger is about 25' past the basket
17. There is water on the left, no reason to go over there
18. The big finish, any tee-shots that land OB should proceed to drop-zone with penalty. There is a cart path to the left of the tee pad and you'll find the drop zone to the left of the cart path marked by white bricks. After the drop-zone the cart path and beyond defines OB for the rest of the hole. One of the most amazing finishing holes in disc golf!!
Lynx
1. Ditch on right is dry, but not recommended
2. Basket is straight ahead on the hill, ingore the basket 100' up on the right, this is not your target
3. Water hazard on right, basket is tucked just inside woodline
4. Don't say "roll-away"
5. Tee shots that land OB must proceed to drop zone with penalty, up the cart path marked with a small white sign.
6. Mando on the left side of the gap into the woods, missed mando proceeds to drop zone with penalty, marked with white flags under orange Mando arrow.
7. Basket is on the right at the end of the fairway
8. What looks like a creek crossing right in front of the basket is dry
9. Just do it
10. Run it
11. Hole 16 is coming towards you on the left, please let players clear if they are in danger
12. Basket is elevated on a stump, Hole 13 is to the right of the basket
13. Basket is on right side of fairway
14. Almost done, stay strong
15. This tee area has two carpet pads, the smaller of the two is the tee pad. The other mush longer tee pad is pointed the wrong direction and should be avoided
16. There is an old creek running through the fairway, it is currently dry.
To get to 17, leave 16 on the right side, walk past the tee pad on Hole 8 and take a left, up over the hill and straight ahead.
17. Mando on the left, if missed proceed to drop zone with penalty. Drop zone is marked with white flags near mando arrow
18. There are (2) mandos on the left, if either are missed, throw from drop-zone with penalty, drop zone marked with white flags.
Red Fox
1. It's right there, go get it
2. Basket is hidden at the end of the fairway tucked into the woods
3. Short & sweet
4. Basket is on the right, the path to hole 5 is directly to the left of the basket, single file please
5. Basket is on the left
6. Yes, the trees are protecting the basket
7. Over the cart path, no OB
8. Tee pad is the cart path, water danger to the left about 30' from the basket
9. Straight shot, the path to 10 is on the right and is skinny
10. Who put that tree there?
11. Out into the open, water-hazard about 40' past the basket
12. Any tee shots that land in the water/OB proceed to drop zone with penalty, drop zone is the small carpet pad before the cart path. All shots from here and after are normal OB rules. Do not throw into the water!
13. It looks like there is a creek crossing in front of the basket, it's an illusion
14. Basket is up the fairway on the left
15. Did I mention trees?
16. You'll remember this alley from past DGPT events
The path to Hole 17, is on the right and is a little bit of a walk
17. Surrounded by mounds, probably prehistoric disc golfers built them
18. Basket is hanging from center of the tree trunk at the end of the fairway, pick your approach landing area or you might not be able to see the basket!
I hope everyone has fun this weekend, and I'm super-grateful to have the chance to be here with you. We've had some last-minute registrations and I'll wait to give you the scoring app code until after the player meeting. Don't stay out too late tonight, and we'll see you in the morning!
The Preserve team has done a lot of work to prepare the property for you, if you see them around please let them know they are appreciated!!!
