Ben Wilcox Aug 16Same tees for every division each round, since the longs and shorts are basically right next to each other.
Brie Coger Sep 21Without a differentiator between men’s and women’s tees out ratings are going to tank, right?
Ben Wilcox Oct 1No, the more rated players that all play the same layout each round, the larger the sample size and the more accurate the ratings will be.
Brie Coger Oct 6While that’s true, FPO and MPO generally should not play the same course layout in PDGA tournaments for optimal player experience and fair rating calculation.
Nick Wood Oct 15Brie is absolutely right.

Everyone gets to play two courses essentially, instead of playing the same course twice. The ratings will be the most accurate to reflect skill level when there are A. More players in the pool to increase sample size, and B. More “propagators” or experienced players with plenty of rounds to stabilize and refine their rating. For those that aren’t too familiar with the course at Hinton, the short tees and the long tees are very close together on every single hole, and even from the long tees Hinton is one of the easiest courses in the area. Unlike pro tour level MPO courses, I have no doubt that the ladies are plenty capable of playing the longs at Hinton successfully and would love to have as many as possible!

All that’s well and good but as a tournament TD , having MA1 and above play the same layout as everyone else, it completely changes the way the course rates. That’s why you see some TDs make 1 hole different. That’s all it takes.
Hope yall have a great event !

Exactly, TDs doing stuff like that is what messes up the ratings system and makes it all inaccurate by creating ratings bubbles. They’re supposed to reflect your relative skill level compared to other established players on that particular course under the same conditions.

Ok man. How is it creating a ratings “bubble” when you’re only being compared to other amateurs closer to your level? Maybe we’re all wrong and you’re the only one doing it right. See how that reflects in attendance. I was simply trying to help .
Good luck.
William Pochop Oct 18All respect Nick, attendance in a fundraiser tournament shouldn’t be dependent on how it may affect your ratings.
Nick Wood Oct 18It isn’t for us . Soon as I seen it was a fundraiser tournament, we decided to play. I just think it helps attendance as a whole. That’s all.
