The 4th annual Vivian Sookwa Memorial doubles tournament is barely 2 weeks away! With that in mind, here are some details to help prepare for August 9th at the amazing White Spruce.
Some details to help you prepare for Saturday August 9th at the Spruce:
First: we’ve still got room for a few more teams. If you know anyone looking for a fun day, send them our way!
Where does the money go? This year we are supporting 3 local charities:
· Regeneration Outreach Centre
· Knight’s Table
· Women and Children Precious Shelter
Speaking of Money! You’ve already paid your $35 entry fee and that includes:
· $5 toward the ace pool
· access to many CTPs
· entrance into our ‘best dressed team’ competition
· inclusion in a surprise contest, and
· a free hot dog and chips for lunch (with a suggested donation of $5 since, after all, this is a charity drive!)
What the $35 doesn’t include (you’ll want to bring lots of cash!) is participation in:
· an amazing raffle table with both disc golf and non-disc golf prizes
· 50/50 draw, and
· Putting contest.
Format and playing details:
Check in begins at 8:15 am and runs until 9:00 when a group photo will be taken to start the player’s meeting. Players must check in by deadline so cards can be finalized!
The game is modified best shot doubles. Each team can use 2 of one player’s tee shots in a row but then must use the other player’s tee shot on the next hole. You can not use the same person’s tee shot 3 holes in a row. This modification only applies to the tee shots. Upshots and putts are simply best shot.
At the start of the 1st round you’ll get a sheet telling you who is eligible for the CTP prizes on each hole. Plan your drives! No sense using your drive on holes 1 and 2 if it’s the CTP on hole 3 that you qualify for.
There will be 2 rounds of shot gun start throwing from the red tees. Cards and tee assignments will be announced at the end of the player’s meeting. Tee times will be roughly 9:30 and 1:00.
Scoring will be completed by one person per group on paper scorecards. Hand these in immediately following each round. Along with your 1st round scorecard bring in the CTP flag from your final hole or the whole card pays the price!
CTP’s are for the first round only with prizes distributed at lunch. After the 2nd round the putting challenges, raffle prizes, 50/50, ace pot, best costumes and overall winners prizes will be distributed.
Plan your team costumes so you can throw in them. This year best team costume voting will take place over lunch and everyone gets a vote.
Washrooms, Water, Parking, & Thanks:
An additional port-a-potty has been ordered for tournament central (main parking lot). Bring your own refillable water bottles as we will have large water bottles in several places around the course for you to access. And since we will be a crowd, please optimize parking! If we run out of space you can park across the street from the park entrance on Bailey Place or past the main parking lot up by the leash-free park.
Thanks in advance to those who’ve sponsored holes and donated both prizes and cash. Without your help this wouldn’t happen. If you’ve something to donate – it’s never too late!
If you have questions about the tournament, please don’t hesitate to contact Mo Sookwa [email redacted] or Jane Anderson-Renton ([email redacted]).
See you all on the 9th!
