Steve Ginthum that’s not true. A DNF 888 drops your rating 5 points for 6 months since it shows manipulation. It’s for the lame ones that disappear mid tournament because their play is awful. They deserve it that’s not me. Jun 9, 2025

Here's a more detailed explanation:
888 (Penalty DNF):
If you leave the course without notifying the Tournament Director (TD), manipulate your score, or otherwise try to retain your rating, the TD will likely assign an 888 score. This DNF with a penalty will lower your overall rating by up to 5 points for a 6-month period.
999 (Legitimate DNF):
If you are unable to finish a round due to injury, illness, or other legitimate reasons, and you notify the TD, they will likely assign a 999 score. This DNF will not negatively impact your rating.

Regardless, AJ, David was concerned because he withdrew before the tournament started, so shouldn’t even have been included, and therefore not been assessed any penalty. I suspect he didn’t withdraw using the Disc Golf Scene app, and the TD hasn’t caught up with that yet.
Steve Ginthum Jun 9, 2025David, reach out to the staff of this tournament through the contact form in this app. The comment section is not ideal. I’ve given a heads up to one of the TDs.
