Hello WACO players!
The following is an important update to the format and logistics of this year's event. I would also like to give some information on how this change came to be and how we plan to make sure we provide the best experience possible for our players.
The Lake Waco Golf Club will no longer be one of the courses in rotation at this event.
This was to be our 3rd year at the lake course. We have been in regular contact with the team at Lake Waco since the conclusion of last year's event, and have had nothing but positive feedback from them about how things went last year and excitement for the coming year. We put an incredible amount of work in at that property. Including thousands of man hours as well as skid steer, tractor, and even dump truck rentals. Many of you may not know, but the Lake flooded this year and almost all of the area that the disc golf course utilized was under 10ft of water at one point. Even through this, we were able to locate and recover all of the baskets and work on some new changes to the layout. The point being, that we had every indication that the course was a go throughout the year.
It came to my attention that the Lake team went through some personnel changes recently, and we quickly reached out to get up to speed on logistics of the event so that we were all on the same page. About a week later,(a couple weeks ago) I got an email from the new team stating that the course would not be available to us. This was obviously shocking news and I tried several times to work something out in any way possible. The goal was to keep the course in rotation, but it just wasn't going to happen.
The good news is that we have been lucky enough to have great support from the City of Woodway and were able to secure Woodway Park for use in the WACO. Some highlights to expect from Woodway Park are brand new, freshly installed Innova Discatcher baskets, some upgraded tee pads and some completely re-done teepads, some holes with stretched out tees and even a brand new hole that has never been played! You will still be playing disc golf next to Lake Waco, just on the opposite side of the lake. PDGA TD of the Year - Steven Storrie will be your Course TD at Woodway. He and I both will make sure you have the best experience possible. https://udisc.com/courses/woodway-park-dgc-Ie4O
Our check-in will also be moved to our new accomodation partner, Camp Fimfo Waco! This will be our host accomodations for the event. This is a resort style park with RV slots, cabins, tiny houses, and more...including a huge pool with giant water slides and a swim-up bar, putt putt golf, pickleball courts, basketball courts, a laser tag course, yard games area, sand volleyball courts, a wiffleball stadium, jumping pillow, fishing on the river, kayaking and paddle boards, squirrely's tavern(restaurant and bar), a dog park, a playground, and even a general store on site. https://campfimfo.com/waco/amenities
We will have a discount code available in the next couple days.
We will be playing the 23 hole layout at Cameron Park, and a modified 18 hole layout at Woodway Park.
It is unfortunate that we are not going to have access to the Lake Waco Golf Course this year. But, I think this is an overall upgrade to the event. Especially given the short notice to make this all happen. We will have Woodway looking great with shiny new baskets, some pad upgrades, and even a new hole. The layout will be mostly the same as what is listed on dgscene/udisc/dgcourse review with a few holes lengthened and the temp hole added.
If this news pushes you to feel like you do not want to participate in the event, I would again tell you that I think it's going to be a blast, but also understand. I will honor any withdrawal/refund requests that include "course change" as a reason for the withdrawal.
I am working diligently to get this new layout mapped out and published with rules as well as Cameron Park's 23 hole layout. I aim to have these published tonight or tomorrow at the latest, and then followed up with a more polished version before the event begins. I will also be sending a few more emails in the coming days with some more event information including parking info, ancillary events info, and of course, Bridge Party info!
