As per PDGA rules (806.02.D), for a TD to limit a player’s choice for playing an OB disc from 1) the previous lie, or 2) a lie marked within one meter from where last inbounds, 3) within 1 meter of all OB lines, 4) from a designated Drop Zone (if the DZ is provided by the TD), and 5) a lie designated by a marker disc placed on the playing surface at any point on a one-meter line that is perpendicular to the out-of-bounds line at the point that is nearest to the position of the disc (if rule is provided by the TD), then the Tournament Director MUST request a waiver. know the rules players.. you can not be forced to a drop zone unless there is a waiver in place from the pdga.

Cory, there are a lot of people that are confused by this as well. If the PDGA did or did NOT give said waiver it looks loke the TD rules during the tournament must be observed regardless. "The above options for an out-of-bounds area may be limited by the Director only with prior approval from the PDGA Director of Event Support. Whether or not prior approval has been granted, during tournament play players must still observe the course rules announced by the Director."

Terry, I'm just confused why Zac is that person though instead of someone playing the tournament. You played the Kuhl discs classic at Adair, right? Was there an island hole for that tournament? I believe that every hole other than 4, which has a drop zone, played normal ob rules with no drop zone. There have been complaints for there being island holes and Zac was the only person in the tournament page comments bringing up island waivers. And here he is again.

Cory... appears because I'm the only one that wants yo follow the rules as a Player and as a TD. TDs need to follow Tour Standards just like players need to follow all the rules and with so many newer players these days most do not know that a TD can not limit there options without an approved waiver and if the TD gets the waiver approved they need to tell the players.

also I was not at Adair and I tried to help the TD before the event but from what I hear the improper island hole was removed by the PDGA. Not sure about you but I'm not kean on playing a hole that is just going to be removed anyways.

and here's a better question for ya Cory... why does it take me to highlight these issues? one would think a player playing the event would bring it up but no one did.. again because players don't read the Tour Standard document and really don't know what TDs are allowed to do and not to do..

I guess I just have trust in the TD that they have a waiver rather than immediately questioning every TD that wants to make an island hole. And regardless, that doesn't affect my throw on that hole. It's the same hole either way, so I don't really care. I'm there to compete on the course that is designed, that everyone else is playing, to the best of my ability which is what I can control and have fun playing disc golf. I understand the rules of an island hole and as long as I and my competitors play it "correctly", there's no issue.

good point... but if all the players in the event don't know what "correct" is then every card would play it different and then everyone is not playing the same course... as for "trust"ing a TD I can't help you there. just know most TDs have also never read the Tour Standards document they are required to follow so you're trusting someone that potentially doesn't know the rules do their own event.

The email from Andrew "Big Dog" Sweeton when the waiver was approved stated the rules to be: Hole 17 – Island Green: Any throw from the Tee must come to rest on the Island Green to be able to mark on the Island Green. Throws from the Tee that don’t come to rest on the Island Green must proceed to the Drop Zone with a penalty throw. All other throws use normal OB rules.

If every player follows the pdga live hole ob instructions for every hole that the TD has entered in then everyone should play the same course. If they don't read it correctly and play it other than what it says, then that's on the player. Plus the player meeting/email should go over all holes and ob rules, so also on the player to know.

Dennis, thank you for your TD abilities. Your attention to detail. Your general attitude and kindness. Your ability to run a tournament that people enjoy. One who doesn’t troll other TD’s and trust they know the rules. You are one of the quality TD’s in this area. See you Saturday.

Just for clarification and transparency, I have received waivers for Hole 2, and Hole 17. Hole 2 there is no good way to know where the disc crossed OB, so the DZ is to help with confusion, discussion, and speed of play.

Do have a question about poison oak...if another player on the card throws into the rough and we are all supposed to help find it, is there an exemption for players that are hypersensitive to poison oak, based on safety?

805.03 B. All players in the group must assist in searching for the disc. Failure to do so is a courtesy violation. Not the most specific rule, assistance is assistance. I think it's wise to avoid dangerous situations. I will have plenty of Zanfel on hand just in case.
