Is there any real difference between the two events other than the additional round/higher entry fee for slightly more scrip? Not sure if I can find a reason to play both or why it's not simply a 3-day event.

I just figured add the extra event on Friday since people tend to practice the day before and let's them get another sanctioned event in while they are there. This way those that can't do Friday can just do the weekend and those that want to just do a flex start can do Friday. Some people want their friends on the same card and tee off when they want. Thus gives them an option to do that.
