To all competitors,
Clearly not everyone is happy that the defending champs are slightly over the cap. I fundamentally understand the gripe, truly, but what I don't understand is the lack of empathy or respect when I provide reasonable explanations. In the interest of transparency + privacy, all I can say is that one of their team members had a VERY serious and life-threatening medical condition a couple of weeks ago that they are still (slowly) recovering from it. This is not just a bum ankle or a bad back or a mild fever. I'm told optimism is high he will be able to play at whatever limited capacity he will be at, but if not then of course the replacement would have to be under the cap.
The cap has gone up every year, as it has this year from 3820 to 3840. Rule #1 is the defending champs have to play, and they define the new cap. They are barely over the number this year and were under it before the Oct update. I'm sorry if neither of these very reasonable explanations satisfies you. This event is meant to be fun and yes, extremely competitive, but fair. In my very strong opinion, this is a fair and firm cap.
