Alright, everyone, here are the final details (you should be able to read all of them in 12 hours or less) for tomorrow:
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your tee time to get checked in and to pick out your players pack/discs.
However, I won’t be handing out your discs anymore than 30 minutes before your start time. Once you have your discs, you may practice with them in the practice area before starting.
When you register, I will ask you about your experience level. We will have three “divisions” or levels of experience (A, B, and C). Please be honest and don’t feel embarrassed for saying C (that’s why this event exists).
A: “Experienced” Players
(Advanced/Intermediate)
B: “Improving” Players
(Recreational/Novice)
C: New Players/Beginners
If you need help determining your division, just talk to me about it tomorrow.
Along with the players packs, we received some additional gift cards for some extra prizes. Here is how those will be given out:
Overall best score (all divisions): TC Champion disc and a $25 Dynamic Discs gift card.
The other two division winners will also receive a $25 Dynamic Discs gift card.
Below are the details for “CTPs” or Closest To Pin/Basket. Each division will have two CTPs, meaning only players of that division can win the prize for that hole. The exceptions to this rule will be holes 1 and 12, on these holes everyone will have a chance to win. This prize is given to whoever throws their drive (first shot from the tee box) nearest to the basket. The CTP will be marked with an orange flag and a piece of paper. If you are closest, write your name down and scratch out whoever had it before you. All CTP prizes are Dynamic Discs gift cards. If you have any question on this, please ask me before the round.
Hole 1: Everyone CTP $30
Hole 3: B 2nd Shot CTP $20
Hole 5: A CTP $20
Hole 7: C CTP $20
Hole 10: C CTP $20
Hole 12: Everyone CTP $25
Hole 14: B CTP $20
Hole 18: A 3rd Shot CTP $20
Finally, some additional rules to go over:
First, there a few holes (3, 8, 11, 13, 17, and 18) that have short tee pads. B and C players will play from these shorter tee pads on 3, 8, 11, 13, and 17. However, you will have a choice on 18. The short tee pad is closer to the corner/mando but considered a harder tee shot by some, so you may choose to play from the long tee if you’d like. A players will not have this option and must play from the long tees at all times.
Second, there are a few holes (5, 9, and 18) that have Mandatories (or “Mandos”). All three of these are Mandatory Left, so this means your disc must travel to the left side of the marked tree. If your disc goes past said tree to the right, that is a one-stroke penalty and you will throw from the “drop zone” which will be marked directly to the left of the Mandatory Tree.
Third, the course does have out-of-bounds (or “OB” for short). OB is shown on the tee signs and is an important part of the game. So, if your disc comes to rest in an OB area, you will take a one-stroke penalty and throw from where it was last in bounds. If any part of your disc is in bounds, you are safe and do not have to take the penalty. If you are unsure, it is up to you and your card/group to come to an agreement.
I will be playing on the 12:00 card. So I will be gone when some of you finish your round. I will give out a paper score card to each card, on that I will write my number on the top. Please call me or text me if you have any questions/problems during your round. And then send me a picture of your score card when you are finished. As we do not all play at the same time, I will pick up the CTPs on my way through the round and then I will post who the winners are here on Disc Golf Scene. I will also send an email to each winner with a picture of their Dynamic Discs gift card(s). I will find a way to get the overall winner their disc.
Anyway, the weather looks great for tomorrow, I am looking forward to the Challenge. I will have a water cooler at check-in, but please bring your own water bottle, and then you can get a refill once you reach hole 12.
Thanks again for supporting the course improvements at Vettiner. I will see you tomorrow.
