I know there have been questions about Langley Pond Open and event registration. We have always tried to be transparent about everything with our players so I will be transparent about this. LPO 2023 is cancelled this year. There are a few reasons why this is happening, and I will share that with you. First, event registration has been open since the end of April. General registration has been open since May 19th. I paused registration this past weekend (Saturday during Kraken Classic) as there were zero players registered. Is it the financial strain on players with event registrations? Is it the influx of sanctioned events with a decreased mileage restriction? Was it 4 tournaments in 5 weeks with AHS? These are some of the questions that we have been discussing and may be some of the variables.
On my personal side, some are aware of what has been going on and others may not. I am not afraid to share that so for those unaware, here it is. Sylvia has been battling breast cancer. We are nearing the second round of chemotherapy and we are being told this one can be quite intense. Our AHS schedule was set up to allow a break in the hotter months as most of us understand how our summer months can be hot as Hades. The second round of chemo begins right after the scheduled weekend of LPO. Call me selfish and I will willingly agree with you as I want to take advantage of some quality time before we enter more speedbumps to overcome. This timeline will allow us the time to get through the second round of chemo before Ogeechee Crossing Open in November. Our battle is not over after chemo. There is still surgery followed by radiation.
With zero players registered and event registration being open for quite some time, we discussed it and decided to cancel and start planning for the fall/winter season. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused for anyone preparing for this tournament. The announcement was not going to be delayed any longer and we thank you for your understanding.
