PDGA rules dictate that a player has to be within the specified age range for the entire year (https://www.pdga.com/youth-and-education/competition). So if your son turns 13 within 2023, then he must move up to the MJ15 division. My son, Elijah, is in a similar situation, having moved up this year to MJ15 from MJ12. Sometimes I think MJ15 gets lumped into MJ18 too quickly. It's a big jump for kids that are turning 13. But I can also empathize with TDs potentially having to create additional layouts for each of the different divisions.

Thanks Taylor. I appreciate your response. I understand the complexity, but I had to ask. I didn't know if the local tournament directors or clubs could make adjustments, in specific cases. Thanks! We look forward to the upcoming tournament.
