Question on how the waitlist works..

If someone withdraws from the tournament through the website, is the person next on the waitlist notified automatically or is it a manual process and an admin needs to reach out.

I’m #1 on the waitlist for the division I signed up for but live an hour away. Do I take a chance and show up hoping someone in the division doesn’t show up? Is that even an option or is that to much extra work for the tournament director?
