Good Afternoon Players and Happy New Year!!
As we enter 2023, we also enter the final weeks prior to the 2023 Gulf Coast Charity Open Presented by Lennar Homes. As we approach the event, I will start sending out a weekly email update on some items of value to you all to help you prepare for the largest disc golf tournament in the Southeastern United States.
This week I wanted to provide an update on the courses, what to expect over the next few weeks, as well as provide some suggestions on how to practice leading up to the event. The below references "the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene registration page" multiple times. Azalea Park:
Is in tournament layout and will remain unchanged until GCCO. Course rules, maps and layouts are available in the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene registration page and are all accurate.
Pureline Park:
Is in tournament layout and will remain unchanged until GCCO. Course rules, maps and layouts are available in the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene registration page and are all accurate.
Picnic Island Park:
Is in tournament layout and will remain unchanged until GCCO. PLEASE NOTE: Picnic Island has 2 baskets on each hole (Orange and Blue). The GCCO uses orange baskets on some holes and blue baskets on others to create our layout. Your layout designation of "short", "long" or "ladies" does not pertain to the baskets, rather the pad you will throw from. Course rules, maps and layouts are available in the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene registration page and will be updated to clarify what color basket you will throw to each hole. As an example, Hole #1 is throwing to the A pin for all layouts, we will update the graphic to say A - Orange. Hole #2 is throwing to the C pin for all layouts, we will update the graphic to say C - Blue. Unused baskets will be covered prior to the event to avoid any additional confusion during competitive play.
Taylor Park:
Is NOT in the tournament layout. We anticipate moving the baskets by the end of the month and will provide an update when completed. In the interim, the course rules, maps and layouts are available in the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene registration page and are all accurate.
Maximo Park:
Is NOT in the tournament layout. Additionally, brand new baskets have just been installed thanks to the hard work of the Tocobaga Disc Golf Club. During this installation a few pin locations that we traditionally use were removed and replaced with other locations. Because of this, the course rules, maps and layouts posted in the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene Registration page are not accurate. I will provide an update when this is completed and when the baskets have been moved to the correct locations.
Cypress Point Park Update:
Is NOT in the tournament layout. 4 new short pin locations were just installed this weekend on holes 4,5,10 and 12 that will be utilized for GCCO. Additionally, we are pending installation of the permanent concrete short pads which are expected to be completed prior to month end. In the interim, the short pads have been marked with pink whisker markers. The course rules, maps and layouts posted in the pictures section of the Disc Golf Scene Registration page are not accurate. I will provide future updates on when this is completed and when the course is prepared for competition practice.
