Thanks to everyone for registering for Driftless Doubles. We are currently full with 108 players! This is going to be a lot of fun!
I got a chance to get down to Rochester to play the Driftless 18 course two days ago with a couple of friends for the second time. The course is looking great, but it is easy to underestimate how grueling the course can be in hot and humid summer conditions. There is a lot of elevation. We spent extra time looking for our discs in the tall grass and rough. We ran out of water and Gatorade half way through the round and we cut the round short.
I am concerned that two rounds on Driftless 18 is going to be way too much. I want people to be safe and not get dehydrated or exhausted. With that said, I am changing the format to just one round of Driftless 18 and a "Finals" where only the top 45% of each division will play a second round where we will play Driftless 9 twice for 18 more holes. If you make the cut for the second round, you will receive a payout for top performers.
We will plan on taking a long lunch break to help everyone rehydrate and cool down. I will plan on bringing some water for the players but be sure to bring plenty of your own and stock up for your rounds. Let me know if you have any questions. I am doing this for everyone's best interests. If you want to withdraw for any reason, just contact me.
Maybe next year we can coordinate this event earlier in the season to avoid the heat and overgrown foliage.
Thanks,
Tom Marcus
