I stopped doing player packages mostly 3-4 years ago. In essense, they are just mandatory disc buys. They ALWAYS get deducted from the payouts (they are not free discs) so if there is a players package, the payouts for the cashing spots are less. My payouts are significantly higher than msot tournaments because of this.

For example.... Tourament last year $30 divisional buy in with 28 players. Cashing spots were $97, $92, $88, $80, $76, $67, $63, $59, $55, $50, $42, $38, $33 ($840 total). If there was a say a Z Disc player package, being generous and not charging full retail, the total for that pool for payouts drops to $476 vs that $840. That is a significant difference in the payouts for those cashing spots.
