Just a quick update in the interest of full disclosure and transparency. The way DGS was calculating handicaps was not exactly as expected, so I have updated calculations for this league slightly as of today. I want everyone to be fully aware of how the league is being run, so here is the updated formula for handicap calculation for anyone interested.
All players who played during the fall session have their fall average (calculated from all fall rounds) entered as an Initial Handicap. This is the handicap that was applied to your first winter session score. Any new players for the winter session that did not play at least once in the fall have had (and will have for all new players) the score from their first winter round retroactively entered as an initial handicap. (Thus making the average of their initial handicap and first round equal to their first round.)
This initial handicap will be used to calculate your running average, until the minimum rounds have been played this session, which is currently set to 2. Therefore, when you play your second round this session your handicap will be the average of your initial handicap and your first round played. When you play your third round (and beyond), the initial handicap will no longer be used, and your handicap will be the average of your first and second round (and third, fourth, etc as rounds are played).
