2021 Fall Fling Doubles Players Meeting

Thank you for registering for Fall Fling Doubles! A big thank-you to our sponsors Dynamic Discs and Lucky Disc Golf! All players will receive an email with a $4 gift card to shop at Lucky Disc Golf as part of their player packs.

This email will serve as the player’s meeting for the event. Please read the entire email as it has information about playing doubles and closes with information about payouts and awards. We ask that you practice social distancing where possible (clearly you can’t distance from your partner). If social distancing cannot be achieved (Ex. crowded tee area) please wear a mask or face covering.

Important Doubles-related rules:

Round 1 is Best Throw. This means both players tee off and the team gets to pick which lie they’d like to play for their next throw. Both team members throw from the resulting lie, and the team again chooses which of the two positions to play from, until the hole is completed.

Round 2 is Modified Best Throw. Both players may tee off on every hole but the resulting lie of each player may only be chosen for 9 holes during the round. Therefore, each team member’s tee shot will be chosen an equal number of times during the round. Once one team member’s tee shots have all been used, they may still throw off the tee but their drives cannot be selected for the second shot. All other rules are similar to Best Throw, once the drives are complete. If a team selects a drive from a team member who has used their allotment of drives for the round, 2 penalty throws are added to the score for the hole. We have paper scorecards which should be used to record whose drive is utilized on each hole. Each team should keep this information for all teams on their card to verify that the proper format is followed.

Other important rules are:
Once a team has a disc in the basket, the team may no longer throw discs on that hole. This is a warning for the team for the first occurrence and a penalty throw for any other violations.
Both team members must throw from the same lie. If they do not, the second throw does not count and a penalty throw is added to the score for the hole.
The same marker must be used for both throws from the lie. If it is accidentally picked up after the first throw, the other team on the card should replace it as close to the original lie as they can. This also means that it is not allowed for one player to throw from behind the disc, and then the second player to mark the lie with a mini and throw from behind that.
If a disc is picked up before a throw is made (and therefore a lie is chosen), the disc may not be replaced and that lie may not be selected. The other disc therefore must be used as the lie.
Don’t forget to pick up BOTH previously thrown discs after playing your lie.
You should not run up to see exactly where your disc stopped before your teammate throws their disc. This will take too much time and should be viewed as a courtesy violation.

Day of event:

Check in will occur from 8:00-8:45 AM. We will have a table set up by the gate leading to hole 1. If you do not check-in you will lose your spot. Both partners need to come check in during this time. You must have a partner to play either round, and you cannot change partners between rounds.

Round 1 will begin at 9:00 AM. All divisions will be playing the white layout as it appears on UDisc, which uses the White teepads to the yellow band Discatchers on all holes except 18, where the red teepad is used. All used teepads will be marked with pink flags and all potentially confusing unused baskets will have caution tape on them.

You will be assigned a starting hole for round 1 tonight, which will appear next to your names on the PDGA event page. Please confirm what hole you are starting on when you check in. In the event that you are the only team who shows up at the hole at the designated start time for either round, proceed as a team to the card in front of you. Let the card know that you are joining their card and have the scorekeeper add you to the PDGA Live Scorecard.

There will be a 1 hour lunch break that will start once the last card has been turned in. The tee time for Round 2 will be posted on the PDGA event page, as well as the hole that you will be starting on. Again if you are the only team to show up, proceed to join the card in front of you.

After round 2, there will be a brief award ceremony to award the CTP prizes, and medals to the winners of each division.

CTPs:
Dynamic Discs has provided two CTP prizes. They are individual prizes (rather than team prizes), and will be awarded to the individual who is closest to the pin on Hole 3 in Round 1 and Hole 18 in Round 2.

Water:
We have 72 20-oz bottles of water. They will be at hole 1 and hole 14. Please put the plastic bottles in a trash or recycling bin rather than discarding them on the course.
